Probabilistic assessment of the impact of material properties on the risk of frost damage in masonry constructions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Historically valuable buildings often contain a huge energy saving potential due to their current lacking thermal performance of the building envelope. Next to this, unfortunately insulation measures, which normally occur at the inside, induce a decrease

The Distribution Characteristics of Frost Heaving Forces on Tunnels in Cold Regions Based on Thermo-Mechanical Coupling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To address the freezing damage to tunnel lining caused by frost heaving of the surrounding rock in water-rich tunnels in cold regions, a numerical thermo-mechanical coupling model for tunnel-surrounding rock that considers the anisotropy of frost heave ...

Comparison of soil frost depth and its duration determined by soil frost tube and soil temperature interpolation

open access: yesContributions to Geophysics and Geodesy, 2012
Soil frost and the depth of freezing are important for the plant development and for the building industry as well. The depth of soil frost is estimated directly by soil frost tube and indirectly from diagrams of soil temperature according to the ...

Numerical Analysis of the Influence of Frost Layers on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of Cryogenic Valves for Polar LNG Ships

open access: yesEnergies
To investigate the impact of frost-layer formation on the heat transfer characteristics of cryogenic valves in LNG vessels, this study derived the temporal variation in the valve’s temperature field based on the thermodynamic characteristic parameters of

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The effect of favourable and unfavourable frost on air cooling coil performance : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology, at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The most common type of air cooling coil used in the refrigeration industry is the finned tube heat exchanger. The performance of such coils can be greatly hindered by frost formation, which will occur when the coil surface temperature is both below the ...

Analysis of Frosting Model And Its Affecting Factors

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2004
Analysis of factors affecting frost is helpful to understand the frost formation mechanics and anti-frost methods. Based on the assumed conditions, effects of inlet air temperature, relative humidity, velocity and temperature of cold surface on frost ...

An Automated Plot Heater for Field Frost Research in Cereals

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
Frost research to improve genetics or management solutions requires a robust experimental design that minimizes the effects of all other variables that can cause plant damage except for the treatment (frost).

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
