Froude number corrections in anthropological studies

American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 2006
The Froude number has been widely used in anthropology to adjust for size differences when comparing gait parameters or other nonmorphological locomotor variables (such as optimal walking speed or speed at gait transitions) among humans, nonhuman primates, and fossil hominins.

Froude Number Effects on Two-Dimensional Hydrofoils

Journal of Ship Research, 2022
The performance of a two-dimensional hydrofoil of arbitrary camber, moving at arbitrary Froude number at a constant depth below a free surface, is considered. The treatment is based upon the use of singularity distributions and thin foil theory. By assuming an appropriate series form for the vortex distribution representing the hydrofoil, it is shown ...

The Froude number stick, an evaluation

River Research and Applications, 2004
AbstractThis paper examines whether horizontal free surface flow patterns can reveal bulk river flow characteristics, such as the Froude number. To do this, the Froude number was measured between 0.2 and 1.2 by visually observing the flow patterns around a wooden stick, the so‐called ‘Froude stick’ described in the literature.

Froude-Zahl Fr (Froude number Fr)

2000

Minimum Flow Estimated By the Froude Number

Impacts of Global Climate Change, 2005
Following the development and management of water resources to satisfy the human demand, the quantity and quality of flow in streams change in both space and time. With increasing recognition of streams being fundamental to human existence, concerns for the effect on the stream ecosystem have been raised by government, biologists and private citizen ...

Oblique liquid curtains with a large Froude number

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2018
This paper examines two-dimensional liquid curtains ejected at an angle to the horizontal and affected by gravity and surface tension. The flow in the curtain is, generally, sheared. The Froude number based on the injection velocity and the outlet’s width is assumed large; as a result, the streamwise scale of the curtain exceeds its thickness. A set of
