High Froude Number Viscous Flow Past a Circular Cylinder

Volume 2: CFD and VIV, 2015
Two-dimensional monophasic flow past a circular cylinder intersecting or close to a free surface at Reynolds 180 is numerically investigated using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The wake behaviour for a range of conditions with Froude numbers between 0.3 and 2.0, a gap ratio of 0.55 and for a half-submerged cylinder are studied.

Tsunami forcing by a low Froude number landslide

Environmental Fluid Mechanics, 2015
The waves generated by a submarine landslide, of great concern to coastal communities, exhibit strong dependence on the landslide motion along the sea floor. A series of two-dimensional physical experiments investigate the waves generated by a solid block landslide moving along a horizontal boundary, allowing measurement of both onshore- and offshore ...

Two-dimensional planing at high Froude number

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1958
This paper examines the flow characteristics of a body of small slope planing at high Froude number over a water surface. An equation is obtained relating the slope of the planing surface to an integral containing the pressure distribution on the planing surface.

Roll Motion of Yachts At Zero Froude Number

The International Journal of Small Craft Technology, 2004
Yachts tend to roll uncomfortably whilst at anchor, causing discomfort to the crew and passengers, generating stresses on equipment, and making operations such as embarking and disembarking hazardous activities. A research program is under way to better understand the design factors and environmental influences leading to the rolling problem, with a ...

Stilling Basin Design for Low Froude Number

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1975
Laboratory tests were conducted to investigate the possibilities of increasing the energy loss and shortening the required stilling basin length for the Froude number range of 2.5 - 4.5. Data were collected for both the ordinary hydraulic jump and the forced hydraulic jump.

Analytical Froude number solution for reservoir density inflows

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2011
This research presents a theoretical Froude number model at the incipient plunging point for a gravity current advancing into a sloping ambient reservoir. The analysis is based on the balance of potential energy, kinetic energy and energy losses. The Froude number at the incipient plunging point attracted attention in recent years.

Particle Densimetric Froude Number for Estimating Sediment Transport

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2003
It has been established that for ratios of flow depth to bed particle diameter less than ten (flow on very rough boundaries) neither the Reynolds number of the solid loose particles at a stream bed...

Low Froude number potential energy resonances in uniform stratification

Physics of Fluids, 2002
Internal wave effects generated by a solid body moving uniformly at constant depth through a density-stratified fluid of uniform depth are investigated. In particular an averaged potential energy Γ per unit track length is defined and analyzed under the assumptions of linear theory, uniform stratification, and rigid lid boundary conditions.
