Reynolds and froude number effect on the flow past an interface-piercing circular cylinder

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2014
The two-phase turbulent flow past an interface-piercing circular cylinder is studied using a high-fidelity orthogonal curvilinear grid solver with a Lagrangian dynamic subgrid-scale model for large-eddy simulation and a coupled level set and volume of ...

Evaluation drag coefficients for circular patch vegetation with different riverbed roughness

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2022
The drag coefficient of a one-line circular patch of emergent sparse vegetation in an open-channel flow or riverbeds with varying bed roughness sizes was experimentally investigated.

M. E. Grant Duff, Philosophic Liberalism and the Global Liberal Cause

open access: yesHistory, EarlyView.
Abstract Historians disagree about how best to conceptualize nineteenth‐century British Liberalism in relation to its international contexts. This article argues that we can better understand the patterns involved by interrogating individuals who bridged the worlds of partisan politics and elaborated thought.

Development of filtered Euler–Euler two-phase model for circulating fluidised bed: High resolution simulation, formulation and a priori analyses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Euler–Euler two-phase model simulations are usually performed with mesh sizes larger than the smallscale structure size of gas–solid flows in industrial fluidised beds because of computational resource limitation.

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Forecasting particle Froude number in non-deposition scenarios within sewer pipes through hybrid machine learning approaches

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Sediment deposition has a substantial effect on the hydraulic capacity of channels in urban drainage and sewer systems. In this sense, the self-cleaning concept has been extensively used in the construction of urban drainage and sewer systems.

Ship wakes: Kelvin or Mach angle?

open access: yes, 2013
From the analysis of a set of airborne images of ship wakes, we show that the wake angles decrease as $U^{-1}$ at large velocities, in a way similar to the Mach cone for supersonic airplanes. This previously unnoticed Mach-like regime is in contradiction

A review of the supercritical state of eruption‐fed volcanic density currents in subaerial and subaqueous settings

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Subaerial Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDCs) and Subaqueous Eruption‐Fed Density Currents (SEFDCs) produced during volcanic eruptions can present major hazards to surrounding communities and ecosystems. The bedforms deposited by these volcanic density currents can provide insights into the nature of transport and depositional processes, which

Far-Field Characteristics of Linear Water Waves Generated by a Submerged Landslide over a Flat Seabed

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Understanding the propagation of landslide-generated water waves is of great help against tsunami hazards. In order to investigate the effects of landslide shapes on the far-field leading wave generated by a submerged landslide at a constant depth, three
