Breeding potential of Fragaria vesca f. alba in respect to volatile compounds

open access: yes, 2009
Fragaria species provide a wide gene pool for breeding in respect to flavour. Although octoploid species are the first choice for breeding due to the equal chromosome set with respect to the cultivars of Fragaria × ananassa, species of a lower ploidy ...

Optimized Lipid Nanoparticles with Tail‐Modified Ionizable Lipids for Safer mRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Systematic engineering of hydrophobic tail architecture in vitamin B5‐derived ionizable lipids establishes a comprehensive structure–activity relationship framework for mRNA delivery. Combined lipidtail and formulation optimization identifies TM1‐OPT3‐C, a lipid nanoparticle platform that improves efficacy–safety balance through efficient mRNA delivery,

Studies on the pollination biology and breeding systems of some genera with sympatric species in the Brazilian cerrados [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Flowering phenology, floral strategies pollinator activity and breeding system were investigated in 14 species of the cerrado vegetation in Braeflia (DF), from April 1985 to April 1986 in Tabebuia caraiba (Mart.) Bur., T.

An Artificially Selected Cytokinin‐Pathway Transcription Factor Balances Soybean Yield and Pathogen Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cytokinin pathway transcription factor, RR2b, was artificially selected during soybean domestication and improvement based on its differential transcriptional activity, which correlates with ATT repeat polymorphisms in its promoter. RR2b balances yield and defense by fine‐tuning its expression level and offers a promising target for decoupling trade ...

Molecular breeding of a novel orange-brown tomato fruit with enhanced beta-carotene and chlorophyll accumulation

open access: yesHereditas, 2017
Tomatoes provide a significant dietary source of the carotenoids, lycopene and β-carotene. During ripening, carotenoid accumulation determines the fruit colors while chlorophyll degradation. These traits have been, and continue to be, a significant focus

Breeding, genetics, and genomics of fruit trees

open access: yesBreeding Science, 2016
Because most regions of Japan are in the temperate climate zone, many deciduous and evergreen fruit crops are cultivated in Japan. In addition to fruit cultivation in the temperate zone, some southern areas, such as the Ryukyu Islands that stretch from Kyushu to Taiwan, are at the northern limits for tropical fruit production without the need of ...

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

Variation in the impact of stem scar and cuticle on water loss in highbush blueberry fruit argue for the use of water permeance as a selection criterion in breeding

open access: yes, 2017
The role of fruit scar on water loss from fresh harvested, fully blue highbush blueberry ( Vaccinium corymbosum L.) fruit was studied on three germplasm lines from each of three half-sib families at University of Talca, Chile.

First steps toward the development of molecular markers associated with Sharka resistance in European plum (Prunus domestica L.) – a project presentation

open access: yes
Sharka disease is caused by the plum pox virus (PPV) and is one of the most important diseases in stone fruit production. This disease was first described in Eastern Europe in 1917, has since spread, and can now be observed throughout Europe as well as ...

Herbicide Metabolic Resistance in Poaceae Plants via the GA‐GID1/DELLA‐DOF2‐P450s Module

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant hormone signaling modulates herbicide resistance in Echinochloa crus‐galli. The GA–DELLA–DOF2 cascade directly activates P450 detoxification genes in two Poaceae species, uncovering a core mechanism of metabolic herbicide resistance. ABSTRACT Barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus‐galli) is one of the world's most important weeds, and the evolution of ...
