Optimising the greenhouse cultivation of Lotus japonicus under dimmable LED

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 189, Issue 2, September 2026.
Optimisation of growth conditions for Lotus japonicus ecotypes MG‐20 and Gifu in climate‐controlled greenhouses indicated that L. japonicus produced less flowers and pods under the fluctuating light of mobile LED (location = 5) than under stationary LED (location = 9) and the effect of the light source increased under low ambient light conditions in ...

When Resources Become Limited: Trophic Niches Shift From Generalism to Specialization in Dung Beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeinae)

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Resource availability and predictability can shape trophic organization in ecological communities. In livestock pastures, cattle dung represents a highly abundant and predictable trophic subsidy for dung beetles, potentially promoting generalist foraging strategies. Here, we test how cattle exclusion affects trophic organization in dung beetle

From Singapore's Forests to Parks: Impacts of Urbanization on Dung Beetle Communities in a Tropical Island City

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 5, September 2026.
We investigated Singapore's dung beetle communities using multiple trapping methods in 12 sites with varying degrees of urbanization. Our results show a decline in dung beetle richness and diversity, with changes in community composition and species turnover with increasing urbanization.
