Axicons in FSO Systems

open access: yes, 2010
This paper studies the possibility of using axicons in Free Space Optics (FSO) systems. The behavior of the pseudo- Bessel beams generated by "logarithmic" and "linear" axicons, with or without stops, was analyzed through the Huygens-Fresnel integral of diffraction in cylindrical coordinates.

Mapping Dental Care for Children and Adolescents With Rare Diseases: A Brazilian Multicentre Study

open access: yesCommunity Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To describe the landscape of dental care provided by specialised centres for children and adolescents with rare diseases (RDs) in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Methods A retrospective cross‐sectional study was conducted involving individuals aged 0–18 years with a confirmed diagnosis of a RD who received care at ...

Transient response analysis for DC-DC boost converter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
DC-DC Boost Converter and Hybrid Posicast Controller is developed and simulated using MATLAB Simulink software. DC-DC Boost converter has a very high overshoot and a very high settling time which produce oscillated output response.

Weather Effects on FSO Network Connectivity

open access: yesJournal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2012
The use of relays is one of the most promising methods for mitigating impairments of the performance of free-space optical (FSO) systems and extending their limited transmission range. However, several factors contribute to significant link performance degradation.

Cost‐Effectiveness of Applying Fluoride Varnish to Preschoolers in a Brazilian Scenario: An Economic Modelling Study

open access: yesCommunity Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background International economic evaluations have not found convincing evidence that the application of fluoride varnish (FV) in preschool children is a cost‐effective anti‐caries measure, and there is a lack of economic evaluations of FV in the Brazilian context.

Changes in Lower Limb Axial Alignment, Gait Biomechanics, and Plantar Force in Crowe Type IV Hip Dysplasia After Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Mean Ten‐Year Follow‐Up Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This is the first study to examine the global alignment of the hip, knee, ankle, and lower limb after total hip arthroplasty in DDH Crowe type IV patients with a follow‐up period of more than 10 years. This is also the first study of its kind (as far as we know) in which both the unaffected and the affected sides were monitored, and full normalization ...

Effect of Pointing Errors on the Performance of Hybrid FSO/RF Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The performance of a free space optics (FSO) transmission suffers from the atmospheric turbulence and the attenuation in foggy environment. By employing relay nodes, the error rate and the coverage area of the FSO communication system can be ...

The Limits of Regulatory Capture: Explaining the UK Payment Protection Insurance Mis‐Selling Scandal

open access: yesPublic Administration, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To what extent does regulatory agencies' failure to protect the public from harm result from undue industry influence? We argue that “regulatory capture” is invoked too easily to explain regulatory failure. To re‐examine the relationship between regulatory capture and regulatory failure, we use process‐tracing to study UK regulatory decision ...
