Thiophene-Based Ligands: Design, Synthesis and Their Utilization for Optical Assignment of Polymorphic-Disease-Associated Protein Aggregates. [PDF]

open access: yesChembiochem, 2023
Conformation‐sensitive thiophene‐based ligands have emerged as a class of molecular tools for efficient optical imaging of disease‐associated protein aggregates. This review summarizes the design and chemical evolution of thiophene‐based ligands, as well as describes how this class of ligands has been used for fluorescent assignment of polymorphic ...

Thiophene-Based Ligands for Histological Multiplex Spectral Detection of Distinct Protein Aggregates in Alzheimer's Disease. [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry, 2023
Multiple colors. A palette of fluorescent donor‐acceptor‐donor thiophene‐based ligands with distinct photo‐physical properties was synthesized. Ligands with specific chemical composition displayed selectivity towards distinct protein aggregates in tissue sections with Alzheimer's disease pathology and by applying different combination of ligands ...

Structural Properties Dictating Selective Optotracer Detection of Staphylococcus aureus. [PDF]

open access: yesChembiochem, 2022
Optotracers are conformation‐sensitive fluorescent tracer molecules that detect peptide‐ and carbohydrate‐based biopolymers. In this study, we investigated the structural properties providing optimal detection of Staphylococcus aureus. We show that the chemical structure and photophysics of these molecules are key tunable characteristics in the ...

Chemical traits of cerebral amyloid angiopathy in familial British-, Danish-, and non-Alzheimer's dementias. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Neurochem, 2022
MALDI mass spectrometry imaging, a novel biochemical imaging technique, was used to elucidate the differential aggregation pattern of amyloid peptide species in vascular deposits in familial British and Danish dementia (FBD/FDD). Cover Image for this issue: https://doi.org/10.1111/jnc.15424 Abstract Familial British dementia (FBD) and familial Danish ...

Cardiac genetic counseling services: Exploring downstream revenue in a pediatric medical center. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Genet Couns
Abstract Genetic counseling is an important component of pediatric cardiac care. The financial costs and benefits of this care have yet to be defined in the literature. Downstream revenue (DSR) analysis can be used to assess the economic impact of genetic counselors (GCs) at their institution beyond the initial patient contact.

Distinct Heterocyclic Moieties Govern the Selectivity of Thiophene‐Vinylene‐Based Ligands towards Aβ or Tau Pathology in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 26, Issue 41, November 2, 2023., 2023
Tau be or not tau be. A variety of fluorescent thiophene‐vinylene‐based ligands was synthesized. Ligands with specific chemical composition displayed selectivity towards distinct protein aggregates in tissue sections with Alzheimer's disease pathology and distinct heterocyclic moieties governed the selectivity of the ligand towards Aβ or tau pathology.

Self‐Assembly of Chiro‐Optical Materials from Nonchiral Oligothiophene‐Porphyrin Derivatives and Random Coil Synthetic Peptides

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 88, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Chiral construction: By mixing anionic oligothiophene−porphyrin derivatives and cationic synthetic peptides, self‐assembled optoelectronic materials with distinct photo‐physical properties and specific architectonical arrangement can be afforded. The chemical composition of the oligothiophene−porphyrin derivative, as well as the sequence of the peptide,

Three‐dimensional volume rendering planning, surgical treatment, and clinical outcomes for femoral and tibial detorsional osteotomies in dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, Volume 51, Issue 7, Page 1126-1141, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives To describe a computed tomographic (CT) methodology for planning the correction of femoral and tibial torsion and report the clinical outcomes after femoral (FDO) and tibial (TDO) detorsional osteotomy in dogs affected by torsion malalignment and patellar luxation (PL). Study design Multicenter retrospective study.

Structural amyloid plaque polymorphism is associated with distinct lipid accumulations revealed by trapped ion mobility mass spectrometry imaging

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 160, Issue 4, Page 482-498, February 2022., 2022
Lipid species have long been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease pathology and beta‐amyloid (Aβ) plaque formation. Using trapped ion mobility spectrometry‐based mass spectrometry imaging (TIMS MSI) allowed us to resolve and unambiguously identify isobaric lipid species in situ that showed distinct localization patterns towards Aβ plaques.

The West Against the Rest? Democracy Versus Autocracy Promotion in Venezuela

open access: yesBulletin of Latin American Research, Volume 41, Issue 1, Page 141-158, January 2022., 2022
Venezuela provides a strong test case for the weakening of democracy and the strengthening of autocracy promotion. External actors are a key part of the domestic political game: the European Union and the United States (EUUS) promote ‘democracy by coercion’ and recognised Juan Guaidó as president, whereas China, Cuba and Russia (CCR) bolster the regime
