Mode of Molecular Recognition of l-Fucose by Fucose-Binding Legume Lectins
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2000Recognition of cell surface carbohydrate moieties by lectins plays a vital role in many a biological process. Fucosyated residues are often implicated as key recognition markers in many cellular processes. In particular, the aspects of molecular recognition of fucose by fucose-bindinglectins UEA 1 and LTA pose a special case because no crystal ...

On the biosynthesis of L-fucose and L-fucose metabolism in man
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1960Studies of the biosynthesis and metabolism of L-fucose in man have been performed. The 14C labeling pattern of L-fucose in human milk subsequent to the intravenous administration of [6-14C]glucose is compatible with the conversion of the intact hexose carbon chain of D-glucose to L-fucose.

L-Fucose is a sugar of considerable biological interest and wide natural occurrence. Its isolation from the Fucus species of seaweed is not difficultl. However, it is a reIativeIy expensive sugar and the only synthesis described afforded an overall yield of 1% from L-arabinose2.

Serum fucose level in malignant diseases
Indian Journal of Cancer, 2010We review the present knowledge of serum fucose with special attention to its relation with various malignant diseases. We summarize the role of serum fucose as a useful diagnostic and prognostic marker when used singly or in combination. The purpose of this review is to provide an expert opinion on the practical and applied aspect of serum fucose ...

L‐fucose is a fundamental monosaccharide component of many mammalian glycoproteins and glycolipids. Fucosylation requires GDP‐L‐fucose as a donor of fucose and a specific fucosyltransferase (Fuc‐T) to catalyze the transfer of L‐fucose to various lactosamine acceptor molecules. The biosynthesis of GDP‐L‐fucose consists of two pathways.

Enzymatic Synthesis of ß‐
AbstractFucose is an important component of complex heterooligosaccharides. Here we describe the preparative enzymatic synthesis of ß‐L‐fucose‐1‐phosphate as well as its enzymatic conversion into GDP‐fucose. Fucose (1) was converted into ß‐L‐fucose‐1‐phosphate (2) with fucose kinase (EC 2.7.1.52) obtained from porcine submaxillary glands by consumption

A recombinant Escherichia coli strain was developed to produce guanosine 5'-diphosphate (GDP)-L-fucose, donor of L-fucose, which is an essential substrate for the synthesis of fucosyloligosaccharides. GDP-D: -mannose-4, 6-dehydratase (GMD) and GDP-4-keto-6-deoxymannose 3, 5-epimerase 4-reductase (WcaG), the two crucial enzymes for the de novo GDP-L ...

Tissue protein‐bound fucose in carcinoma of the female breast (tumor fucose in breast carcinoma)
Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1970AbstractA positive relationship between serum protein‐bound fucose levels and carcinoma of the female breast has been demonstrated in previous reports. In this study, breast tissue fucose levels were determined and the value of a ratio between malignant tumor and control tissue levels was found to correlate directly with serum fucose levels.
