Serum fucose level in malignant diseases

Indian Journal of Cancer, 2010
We review the present knowledge of serum fucose with special attention to its relation with various malignant diseases. We summarize the role of serum fucose as a useful diagnostic and prognostic marker when used singly or in combination. The purpose of this review is to provide an expert opinion on the practical and applied aspect of serum fucose ...

Fucose Incorporation and Identification of Fucosylglycoproteins in Synaptosomes

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1981
Abstract— A synaptosome‐enriched fraction from sheep cortex was incubated with l‐fucose. The uptake of the sugar into this preparation was dependent on time, temperature, and concentration. A A K mapp of 0.94 mm‐l‐fucose and a V maxapp value of 0.24 nm‐l‐fucose/mg synaptosomal soluble protein/20 min was determined.

Core fucose is essential glycosylation for CD14-dependent Toll-like receptor 4 and Toll-like receptor 2 signalling in macrophages

Journal of Biochemistry (Tokyo), 2018
Core fucosylation, catalysed by α-1, 6 fucosyltransferase (FUT8), regulates growth factor receptors in immune function. Although core fucose regulates many immune cell types, few reports confront the association between core fucose activity and an innate

Fucose: biosynthesis and biological function in mammals

Glycobiology, 2003
Fucose is a deoxyhexose that is present in a wide variety of organisms. In mammals, fucose-containing glycans have important roles in blood transfusion reactions, selectin-mediated leukocyte-endothelial adhesion, host-microbe interactions, and numerous ontogenic events, including signaling events by the Notch receptor family.

Fucose-Functionalized Precision Glycomacromolecules Targeting Human Norovirus Capsid Protein.

Biomacromolecules, 2018
Norovirus infection is the major cause of nonbacterial gastroenteritis in humans and has been the subject of numerous studies investigating the virus's biophysical properties and biochemical function with the aim of deriving novel and highly potent entry

Purification and characterization of the l-fucose transporter

Protein Expression and Purification, 2004
L-Fucose is a monosaccharide present in low levels in the serum. It is, however, a common structural component of glycoproteins. L-Fucose is accumulated in eukaryotic cells by a specific, facilitative diffusion transport system which has been designated the fucose transporter.

Serum fucose as a monitor for recurrent malignancy

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1978
AbstractSerum fucose determinations were performed on 19 patients with “stable” or “inactive” malignancies, 33 patients with “active” malignancies, and 14 “normals.” A significant difference in the values between “normal” and “stable” patients and those with “active” cancer is shown. A role for this relatively simple serological test for diagnosing and

Enzymatic Synthesis of ß‐L‐Fucose‐1‐phosphate and GDP‐fucose

Liebigs Annalen der Chemie, 1992
AbstractFucose is an important component of complex heterooligosaccharides. Here we describe the preparative enzymatic synthesis of ß‐L‐fucose‐1‐phosphate as well as its enzymatic conversion into GDP‐fucose. Fucose (1) was converted into ß‐L‐fucose‐1‐phosphate (2) with fucose kinase (EC 2.7.1.52) obtained from porcine submaxillary glands by consumption

Tissue protein‐bound fucose in carcinoma of the female breast (tumor fucose in breast carcinoma)

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1970
AbstractA positive relationship between serum protein‐bound fucose levels and carcinoma of the female breast has been demonstrated in previous reports. In this study, breast tissue fucose levels were determined and the value of a ratio between malignant tumor and control tissue levels was found to correlate directly with serum fucose levels.

THE DETERMINATION OF TERMINAL PROTEIN-BOUND FUCOSE

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1965
The spectrophotometric determination of protein-bound fucose is badly compromised by spurious chromagens developed from protein degradation products. To minimize the contribution of these spurious products to the color yield of fucose, the glycoprotein was partially hydrolyzed in dilute acid, thus releasing the terminal carbohydrate from the protein ...
