Screening for angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity of enzymatic hydrolysates obtained from Azorean macroalgae [PDF]
As part of ongoing studies into the isolation of antihypertensive peptides, 12 common macroalgae species from Azores were investigated for their potential angiotensinconverting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory properties.

Progress and future directions for seaweed holobiont research
Summary In the marine environment, seaweeds (i.e. marine macroalgae) provide a wide range of ecological services and economic benefits. Like land plants, seaweeds do not provide these services in isolation, rather they rely on their associated microbial communities, which together with the host form the seaweed holobiont.

Deciphering contaminants and toxins in fermented food for enhanced human health safeguarding
Abstract Fermented foods have been a component of the human diet since ancient times, including live bacteria employed to restore gut health, contributing to the frontline of functional food progression. Human concern about the harmful consequences of possible contaminants has increased significantly as their toxicity, carcinogenicity, and ...

Roseobacter fucihabitans sp. nov., isolated from the brown alga Fucus spiralis
A Gram-negative, aerobic, pink-pigmented, and bacteriochlorophyll a-containing bacterial strain, designated B14T, was isolated from the macroalga Fucus spiralis sampled from the southern North Sea, Germany. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, species of the genera Roseobacter and Sulfitobacter were most closely related to strain B14T with sequence ...

Evolution of the Fucaceae (Phaeophyceae) inferred from nrDNA-ITS [PDF]
Sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS-1, 5.8S, and ITS-2) of nuclear ribosomal DNA were obtained from 16 species representing all six genera of Fucaceae (Ascophyllum, Fucus, Hesperophycus, Pelvetia, Pelvetiopsis, and Xiphophora) plus ...
