Electrodiffusion of Radionuclides in Lava-Like Fuel-Containing Materials

Materials Science, 2005
We pose and study the problem of transport of charged particles of radionuclides through the surface of contact of a layer of electrolyte with a lava-like fuel-containing material. It is shown that the electric charge and the strength of the electric field are concentrated in a narrow layer near the interface of layers and form the surface electric ...

Regression Rates of Solid Fuels Containing High Nitrogen (HiN) Materials

47th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2011
The combustion behavior of novel energetic formulations in solid fuels to replace conventional, low-energy, binders such as hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) were examined. The proposed solid fuels will provide higher enthalpy, higher density, and improved rocket engine performance.

Use of a single fuel containment material during pyroprocessing tests

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2015
Abstract The use of a single stainless steel (STS) wire mesh basket as the fuel containment material for a series of pyroprocessing steps has been studied. The use of a single basket minimizes fuel loss and was enabled by transporting and using the basket containing the fuel from one test to the next without unloading it.

Investigation of the elemental composition of surrogates of fuel-containing materials by nuclear microanalysis

Atomic Energy, 2007
Nuclear microanalysis was used to determine the elemental composition of individual components of the batch for synthesizing surrogates for the lava-like fuel-containing mass and to determine the composition of the surrogates themselves. The elemental composition of the surrogates obtained is compared with that of the real materials.

Mathematical model of the process of electrodiffusion of radionuclides in lavalike fuel-containing materials

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2012
We propose a model for the quantitative description of the diffusion of radioactive admixtures in fuel-containing materials based on the analysis of the processes of electrolytic dissociation and electrodiffusion (in the case of charged admixtures) with regard for thermal and electromagnetic processes.

Radioactivity distribution in fuel-containing materials (Chernobyl “lava”) and aerosols from the Chernobyl “Shelter”

Radiation Measurements, 2015
Abstract Homogeneity of the radioactivity distribution, composition and structure of radioactive phases were investigated for several samples of Chernobyl fuel-containing materials (Chernobyl “lava”) collected in different parts of the destroyed reactor building. The spatial distribution of the α- and of the total activity is homogeneous on the scale
