Regression rates of nonmetalized hybrid fuel systems

AIAA Journal, 1965
A laboratory-scale slab burner has been used to characterize the regression rate of three different binder compounds with oxidizers varied from 100% fluorine to 100% oxygen. The oxidizer flow rate and pressure were varied from 0.014 to 0.17 lb/in.2-sec and 20 to 160 psia, respectively.

Measurement of Fuel Regression Rates in a Jet Fuel Pool Fire in Crosswind

Volume 4, 2004
Fire modeling software has become increasingly important for the prediction of fire development in industrial and transportation accident scenarios. A key parameter required as input to fire models is the rate at which the fuel load is consumed, often reported as the fuel regression rate.

Regression Rate Behavior of Hybrid Rocket Solid Fuels

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2000
An experimental investigation of the regression-rate characteristics of hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) solid fuel burning with oxygen was conducted using a windowed, slab-geometry hybrid rocket motor. A real-time, x-ray radiography system was used to obtain instantaneous solid-fuel regression rate data at many axial locations.

Regression rate response in spin-stabilized solid fuel ramjets [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics, 2020
ABSTRACT The regression rate of the solid fuel in the spinning solid fuel ramjet is investigated here using numerical simulations. The finite volume solver of the reacting turbulent flow is developed to study the flow field in the back-step combustion chamber where the burning rate of the solid fuel is computed using the conjugate heat ...

Hybrid rocket fuel combustion and regression rate study

28th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1992
The objectives of this study are to develop hybrid fuels (1) with higher regression rates and reduced dependence on fuel grain geometry and (2) that maximize potential specific impulse using low-cost materials. A hybrid slab window motor system was developed to screen candidate fuels - their combustion behavior and regression rate.

The experiments for the enhancement of regression rate of hybrid rocket fuel

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2005
Many studies have been conducted to increase regression rate of solid fuel in hybrid rocket. One of them resorts to swirl flow since it can extend the residence time of oxidizer in the fuel grain. Also, metal wires may lead to increase the regression rate of solid fuel as shown in solid propellants.

Pressure dependence of nonmetalized hybrid fuel regression rates.

AIAA Journal, 1967
Theoretical interpretations are reviewed and discussed for recent experimental observations on the pressure dependence of nonmetalized hybrid fuel regression rates. It is emphasized that regression rate data alone are not likely to be capable of demonstrating whether the major heat-release reactions are heterogeneous or homogeneous.

The Accuracy of Reconstruction Techniques for Determining Hybrid Rocket Fuel Regression Rate

2018 Joint Propulsion Conference, 2018
This study is an investigation of the accuracy of reconstruction techniques for determining instantaneous fuel regression rate. Results of reconstruction techniques are compared with results obtained through the measurement of the pressure drop across the fuel in an Axial-Injection End-Burning hybrid rocket (EBHR).

Study on the Regression Rate of Paraffin-Based Hybrid Rocket Fuels

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2011
The most significant problem of a conventional hybrid rocket is very low fuel regression rate. But paraffin-based fuels are shown to have much higher regression rate property. And it was determined theoretically that this was caused by the low viscosity and the low surface tension of the surface melt layer.
