Experimental validation of equilibria in fuel cells with dead-ended anodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper investigates the nitrogen blanketing front during the dead-ended anode (DEA) operation of a PEM fuel cell. Surprisingly the dynamic evolution of nitrogen and water accumulation in the dead-ended anode (DEA) of a PEM fuel cell arrives to a ...

Fuel supply optimization in micro fuel cells

open access: yesProcedia Chemistry, 2009
AbstractMiniature high-performance micro fuel cells (μFC) operating at room temperature have been fabricated using microsystems technologies. The smallest μFCs have a reaction surface of 0.11 cm2 (volume ∼18.6 mm3; mass ∼35.6 mg) and produce an output power density of 22.9 mW/cm2.

Proton Exchange Membrane Hydrogen Fuel Cell as the Grid Connected Power Generator

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
In this paper, a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is implemented as a grid-connected electrical generator that uses hydrogen gas as fuel and air as an oxidant to produce electricity through electrochemical reactions.

Investigations of the Emission Characteristics of a Dual-Fuel Gas Turbine Combustion Chamber Operating Simultaneously on Liquid and Gaseous Fuels

open access: yesPolish Maritime Research, 2021
This study is dedicated to investigations of the working process in a dual-fuel low-emission combustion chamber for a floating vessel’s gas turbine. As the object of the research, a low-emission gas turbine combustion chamber with partial premixing of ...

The problem of risk management for flight safety in the field of aviation fuel supply of air transportation

open access: yesНаучный вестник МГТУ ГА, 2023
At the present stage of the development of aviation activity, there is a significant increase in aviation traffic, which in turn puts a significant burden on the supply of jet fuel to civil aviation. On average, 10.9 million tons of aviation kerosene per

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Fuel Saving And Electric Power Quality Improvement In Autonomous Power Supply Systems By Using Energy Storages [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
In autonomous power supply systems for diesel power stations located in remote areas, the main component of costs is the cost of imported fuel. The use of energy storage systems reduces fuel consumption for an autonomous power station.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
