Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Effective Chroma Subsampling and Luma Modification for RGB Full-Color Images Using the Multiple Linear Regression Technique

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Differing from the traditional chroma subsampling on the YUV image converted from a RGB full-color image, in this paper, we propose a novel and effective chroma subsampling and luma modification (CSLM) method.

Vivid, full-color aluminum plasmonic pixels [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2014
Significance Full-color displays are typically fabricated using a combination of chromatic materials of various types, introduced into an addressable pixel-based electronic device. Here we show that brightly colored, highly vivid pixels, directly suitable for RGB displays, can be fabricated using periodic areas of Al nanorods in each ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Multicolor nanoring arrays with uniform and decoupled scattering for augmented reality displays

open access: yesNanophotonics
For vivid, immersive overlay of virtual images onto background scenes in augmented reality (AR) applications, it is crucial for the display element to achieve controllability of spectral selectivity and transmittance level.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Full-color illumination that needs no electric power

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
Red, green, and blue phosphorescent resins were developed to realize full-color illuminators that shine without the need for electric power. Red phosphorescence, which used to be weak with conventional red phosphors, was enhanced notably with dye-doped resins in which green or blue phosphors were dispersed uniformly; i.e., brightness increased by seven

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Full-Color III-Nitride Nanowire Light-Emitting Diodes

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Engineering and Computation, 2019
III-nitride nanowire-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been intensively studied as promising candidates for future lighting technologies. Compared to conventional GaN-based planar LEDs, III-nitride nanowire LEDs exhibit numerous advantages ...

Rational Design of Multi‐Color‐Emissive Carbon Dots in a Single Reaction System by Hydrothermal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2021
As an emerging building unit, carbon dots (CDs) have been igniting the revolutionaries in the fields of optoelectronics, biomedicine, and bioimaging. However, the difficulty of synthesizing CDs in aqueous solution with full‐spectrum emission severely ...
