Full reference and reduced reference metrics for image quality assessment
Seventh International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2003. Proceedings., 2003In this paper, we propose efficient full reference and reduced reference image quality assessment metrics. These two metrics are based on human visual system properties to get the best correspondence with human judgments. The full reference metric is generic (independent from image distortion type) and convenient for image coding schemes comparison ...

Neural network-based full-reference image quality assessment
2016 Picture Coding Symposium (PCS), 2016This paper presents a full-reference (FR) image quality assessment (IQA) method based on a deep convolutional neural network (CNN). The CNN extracts features from distorted and reference image patches and estimates the perceived quality of the distorted ones by combining and regressing the feature vectors using two fully connected layers.

Machine learning to design full-reference image quality assessment algorithm
Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2012A crucial step in image compression is the evaluation of its performance, and more precisely, available ways to measure the quality of compressed images. In this paper, a machine learning expert, providing a quality score is proposed. This quality measure is based on a learned classification process in order to respect human observers.

Full-reference quality assessment of stereoscopic images by modeling binocular rivalry
2012 Conference Record of the Forty Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (ASILOMAR), 2012We develop a framework for assessing the quality of stereoscopic images that have been afflicted by possibly asymmetric distortions. An intermediate image is generated which when viewed stereoscopically is designed to have a perceived quality close to that of the cyclopean image.

A weighted full-reference image quality assessment based on visual saliency
Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation, 2017A full reference image quality assessment based saliency map is proposed.Human visual system is taken account into image quality assessment. The pixels of an image make different contributions in image quality assessment. In full reference image quality assessment (IQA), the images without distortion are usually employed as reference, while the ...

Image Quality Assessment: A Review to Full Reference Indexes
2018An image quality index plays an increasingly vital role in image processing applications for dynamic monitoring and quality adjustment, optimization and parameter setting of the imaging systems, and finally benchmarking the image processing techniques. All the above goals highly require a sustainable quantitative measure of image quality.

Encoding Distortions for Multi-task Full-Reference Image Quality Assessment
2019 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), 2019Most existing image quality assessment models focus on evaluating the image quality score, however, the quality score alone is not enough to characterize the degeneration. In this paper, we propose a full reference framework named Mask Gated Convolutional Network (MGCN) for evaluating the image quality score and identifying distortions simultaneously ...

Composition-preserving deep approach to full-reference image quality assessment
Signal, Image and Video Processing, 2020Image quality assessment is an important element of a broad spectrum of applications ranging from automatic video streaming to display technology. In this study, we present a novel full-reference image quality assessment algorithm relying on a Siamese layout of pretrained convolutional neural networks (CNNs), feature pooling, and a neural network ...

Full-reference visual quality assessment for synthetic images: A subjective study
2015 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2015Measuring visual quality, as perceived by human observers, is becoming increasingly important in the many applications in which humans are the ultimate consumers of visual information. For assessing subjective quality of natural images, such as those taken by optical cameras, significant progress has been made for several decades.
