Deep Reinforcement Learning Approaches for Sensor Data Collection by a Swarm of UAVs

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents four decentralized reinforcement learning algorithms for autonomous data harvesting and investigates how collaboration improves collection efficiency. It also presents strategies to minimize training times by improving model flexibility, enabling algorithms to operate with varying number of agents and sensors.

Airframe Noise Simulations of a Full-Scale Aircraft [PDF]

open access: yes
Computational results for a full-scale simulation of a Gulfstream G-III aircraft are presented. In support of a NASA airframe noise flight test campaign, Exa Corporations lattice Boltzmann PowerFLOW solver was used to perform time-accurate simulations of

Controlling Dynamical Systems Into Unseen Target States Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Parameter‐aware next‐generation reservoir computing enables efficient, data‐driven control of dynamical systems across unseen target states and nonstationary transitions. The approach suppresses transient behavior while navigating system collapse scenarios with minimal training data—over an order of magnitude less than traditional methods.

Introduction of an Individual Aircraft Tracking Program for the Polish SU-22

open access: yesFatigue of Aircraft Structures, 2017
The Su-22 fighter-bomber is a military aircraft used in the Polish Air Force (PLAF) since the mid 1980’s. By decision of the Ministry of National Defence Republic of Poland, the assumed service life for this type of aircraft was prolonged up to 3200 ...

Motion Synchronous Composite Decoupling with Fewer Sensors on Multichannel Hydraulic Force Control for Aircraft Structural Loading Test System

open access: yesSensors, 2018
The aircraft full-scale fatigue test is widely used in the modern aircraft industry for the safety of flight. Generally, the aircraft full-scale fatigue test is achieved by structural loading; multiple hydraulic actuators are used to apply load for force

Noise of the Harrier in vertical landing and takeoff [PDF]

open access: yes
The noise of the Harrier AV8C aircraft in vertical takeoff and landing was measured 100 feet to the side of the aircraft where jet noise dominates. The noise levels were quite high - up to 125 dB overall sound level at 100 feet.

Serum PFAS in Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Firefighters From Six U.S. Airport Fire Departments

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Use of aqueous film‐forming foam (AFFF) is a source of exposure to per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for firefighters working in aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) settings. However, data characterizing the association between serum PFAS concentrations and exposure risk factors for ARFF firefighters are limited ...

Mode S Transponder Comm-B Capabilities in Current Operational Aircraft

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
Mode S surveillance allows air traffic controllers to interrogate certain information from aircraft, such as airspeeds, turn parameters, target altitudes, and meteorological conditions. However, not all aircraft have enabled the same capabilities. Before

Brazed Borsic/aluminum structural panels [PDF]

open access: yes
A fluxless brazing process has been developed that minimizes degradation of the mechanical properties of Borsic/aluminum composites. The process, which employs 718 aluminum alloy braze, is being used to fabricate full scale Borsic/aluminum-titanium ...

Functional models from limited data: A parametric and multimodal approach to anatomy and 3D kinematics of feeding in basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.
