Full-scale testing of an Ogee tip rotor [PDF]

open access: yes
Full scale tests were utilized to investigate the effect of the ogee tip on helicopter rotor acoustics, performance, and loads. Two facilities were used: the Langley whirl tower and a UH-1H helicopter.

Aeroelastic Testing of ASLV Models for Predicting Transonic Buffet Response : Ground Studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
A 1:20 Scale Aeroelastic model of ASLV is designed for studying its transonic buffet response. The model simulates full-scale parameters at Mach one condition and is designed for testing in the NAL 1.2m Trisonic Wind Tunnel.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Behavior of the Vault in Column-Free Large-Span Metro Stations Under Asymmetric Loading

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To explore the application of precast concrete construction methods in underground stations, a combined precast and cast in situ construction method was adopted for a long-span column-free underground subway station.

Full-scale transmission testing to evaluate advanced lubricants [PDF]

open access: yes
Experimental tests were performed on the OH-58A helicopter main rotor transmission in the NASA Lewis 500 hp helicopter transmission test stand. The testing was part of a lubrication program. The objectives are to develop and show a separate lubricant for

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Hysteretic Live Load Effect in Soil-Steel Structure

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2016
This paper deals with the mechanical behaviour of soil-steel structures subjected to live loads. The results of the full scale experiment show that the deformation of such structures is affected not only by the location and intensity of the load, but ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Loading Tests on Full-Scale House Roofs

open access: yes, 1962
Earlier loading tests on single roof frames had shown that many conven tional rafter-and-joist frames had failure loads well below the design snow loads specified in Canada. This suggested that either actual snow loads were lower than the design values or that the strength of individual roof frames do not indicate full strength of the complete roof ...
