Frailty Predicts Incident Osteoporotic Fractures in Veterans with Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background/Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk of frailty and osteoporosis, but the relationship between frailty and incident osteoporotic fractures in RA is underexplored. Methods Data were from the Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis (VARA) Registry.

Engagement Patterns with an AI Health Coach for Systemic Sclerosis Self‐Management: A Mixed Methods Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective To evaluate utility of an artificial intelligence (AI) health coach for systemic sclerosis (SSc) self‐management and identify patterns associated with participant engagement. Methods We conducted a mixed‐methods study in which an AI health coach, powered by a large language model (LLM), was used to support self‐management for SSc.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Novel methods for fatigue data editing for horizontal axis wind turbine blades

open access: yes
Wind turbine blades are the most critical components of wind turbines. Full-scale blade fatigue testing is required to verify that the blades possess the strength and service life specified in the design.

Influences of fatigue stiffness degradation of in-service concrete T-beams on natural vibration frequency

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
In order to obtain the fatigue stiffness degradation law of in-service concrete T-beam and carry out fatigue life prediction, a dual-stage stiffness degradation model considering cracks was established for T-beams and formulas for calculating the ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Fatigue life of rotor shafts in theory, practice and in a full scale testing environment

open access: yes, 2014
9 S.On one hand rotor shafts of wind turbines seem to be larger and heavier than they need to be, due to a lack of empirical data from full scale fatigue testing and a compensation through safety factors.
