Fumigable warehouses: design and construction (NRI Bulletin 53) [PDF]
In any grain storage system the control of insects is of paramount importance. The ultimate means of insect control is fumigation. Generally grain is fumigated by covering with a gas-proof fumigation sheet and using either methyl bromide or phosphine. An

Abstract Predicted increases in stream temperature are expected to accelerate organic matter decomposition in rivers. In detrital stream food webs, carbon use efficiency (CUE)—the proportion of consumed carbon (C) retained as biomass—determines whether C is stored in organisms or rapidly lost as CO2.

Gamma irradiation (Dmin 650 Gy) proved effective in controlling insect pest infestations in stored wheat grains which otherwise undergo extensive losses during storage. SWATH‐MS based proteomics affirmed integrity of major storage proteins including prolamines and increased extractability of phenolics (soluble free & conjugated) was observed in ...

In a short‐term pot experiment, three legume‐based crop rotations are being tested for their effects on the P cycle and P use efficiency compared to maize monoculture. Legume‐based crop rotations stimulate the P cycle by increasing acid phosphatase activity and carboxylate exudation.

Abstract The temperature sensitivity of soil organic carbon decomposition (Q10) governs the fate of soil carbon under global warming. Although erosion redistributes soil carbon at scales comparable to the terrestrial carbon sink, how erosion reshapes Q10 across large regional scales remains elusive.

Below‐ground drivers of rhizosphere functional gene assembly during Moso bamboo expansion
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) expansion threatens subtropical forest biodiversity, yet how intraspecific root trait variation shapes rhizosphere microbial functional potential remains unclear.
