Quasi-seamless stitching for large-area micropatterned surfaces enabled by Fourier spectral analysis of moiré patterns

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The main challenge in preparing a flexible mold stamp using roll-to-roll nanoimprint lithography is to simultaneously increase the imprintable area with a minimized perceptible seam.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Functional outcomes of residual varus alignment versus mechanical alignment in total knee arthroplasty for varus osteoarthritis: A preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses-compliant meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2022
Background One in five patients with mechanical alignment (MA) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was reportedly dissatisfied. As constitutional varus knees are common, restoring the patients’ natural residual varus (RV) alignment is as an appealing ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Functional knee positioning in patients with valgus deformity undergoing image-based robotic total knee arthroplasty: Surgical technique

open access: yesSICOT-J
Background: Functional knee positioning (FKP) represents an innovative personalized approach for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) that reconstructs a three-dimensional alignment based on the optimal balance of soft tissue and bony structures, but it has ...

Aligning Graphical and Functional Causal Abstractions

open access: yesCoRR
Causal abstractions allow us to relate causal models on different levels of granularity. To ensure that the models agree on cause and effect, frameworks for causal abstractions define notions of consistency. Two distinct methods for causal abstraction are common in the literature: (i) graphical abstractions, such as Cluster DAGs, which relate models on

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Structural Re-Alignment in an Immunogenic Surface Region of Ricin A Chain

open access: yesBioinformatics and Biology Insights, 2008
We compared structure alignments generated by several protein structure comparison programs to determine whether existing methods would satisfactorily align residues at a highly conserved position within an immunogenic loop in ribosome inactivating ...
