Metric Functional Dependencies
2009 IEEE 25th International Conference on Data Engineering, 2009When merging data from various sources, it is often the case that small variations in data format and interpretation cause traditional functional dependencies (FDs) to be violated, without there being an intrinsic violation of semantics. Examples include differing address formats, or different reported latitude/longitudes for a given address.

Dependence Functions and Frailties
Biometrical Journal, 1996AbstractThis note considers association between nonnegative random variables in which the two observed survival times depend on an unobservable random variable via the proportional hazard model. When the random variables are subject to censoring, the conditional hazard functions provides a reasonable means of describing the association between the two ...

Motor Functioning and Alcohol Dependence
Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 2007Background: Autopsy and neuroimaging research in stably abstinent alcoholics illuminated structural and functional abnormalities in brain areas that organize and coordinate motor functioning. Researchers that used behavioural tasks to measure motor functioning found that abstinent alcoholics perform worse than healthy controls.

Functional Dependencies for XML
2003In this paper we address the problem of how to extend the definition of functional dependencies (FDs) in incomplete relations to XML documents. An incomplete relation is said to strongly satisfy a FD if every completion of the relation, obtained by replacing all null values by data values, satisfies the FD in the ordinary sense.

Functional Dependencies for XML
2010In this paper, we present a new approach for defining functional dependencies for XML (XFDs) on XML Schema. While showing how to extend XML Schema, we analyze the expressive power of our XFDs. We focus on supporting complex value (e.g. list, set) in our proposal.

PageRank is defined as the stationary state of a Markov chain. The chain is obtained by perturbing the transition matrix induced by a web graph with a damping factor α that spreads uniformly part of the rank. The choice of α is eminently empirical, and in most cases the original suggestion α=0.85 by Brin and Page is still used. In this paper, we give a

Dependability and Functional Safety
2012The chapter deals with the dependability and the functional safety of a system by illustrating the key points of the theoretical corpuses formulated on the two subjects: the dependability theory and the functional safety standards. Dependability is concerned with the ability of a system to deliver the intended service, including the ability to cope ...

Error-Robust Functional Dependencies
Fundamenta Informaticae, 2004A database user may be confronted with a relation that contains errors. These errors may result from transmission through a noisy channel, or they may have been added deliberately in order to hide or spoil information. Error-robust functional dependencies provide dependencies that still hold in the case of errors.
