Testing satisfaction of functional dependencies
Journal of the ACM, 1982Determmmg whether a single relation satisfies a set of funcnonal dependencies is a straightfor- ward task However, determining whether a set of relations sattsfies a set of functional dependencies is a more d~fficult problem Even the meaning of th~s notion of "satisfaction" needs to be settled Several definitions for sat~sfactton are considered, one of

The interaction between functional dependencies and template dependencies
Proceedings of the 1980 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data - SIGMOD '80, 1980A large class of dependencies, called template dependencies, was introduced in Sadri and Ullman [1979], and a complete set of inference rules (axioms) was given for it. In this paper, we investigate the interaction between template dependencies and functional dependencies.

On approximation measures for functional dependencies
Information Systems, 2004We examine the issue of how to measure the degree to which a functional dependency (FD) is approximate. The primary motivation lies in the fact that approximate FDs represent potentially interesting patterns existent in a table. Their discovery is a valuable data mining problem.

Local XML functional dependencies
Proceedings of the fifth ACM international workshop on Web information and data management - WIDM '03, 2003Keys and functional dependencies play a fundamental role in relational databases where they are used in integrity enforcement and in database design. Similarly, these constraints will play a fundamental role in XML and recently keys and functional dependencies in XML have been defined.

Conditional Functional Dependencies (CFDs) are Functional Dependencies (FDs) that hold on a fragment relation of the original relation. In this paper, we show the hierarchy between FDs, CFDs and Association Rules (ARs): FDs are the union of CFDs while CFDs are the union of ARs.

Neuropsychological functioning and alcohol dependence
Current Opinion in Psychiatry, 2005Alcohol dependence is a significant challenge to society and health-care services. The associated cognitive deficits are thought to affect behavioral control, therapy and liability to relapse. The present review demonstrates important new findings.Recent interest focused on compensatory functional circuits, components of executive functioning ...
