The diversity-stability paradox in an organization: examining the divergent role of functional diversity in operational resilience [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management
PurposeThis study proposes a nature-inspired approach to fostering operational resilience with the aim of examining whether organizations, akin to biological ecosystems, may utilize functional diversity to improve their adaptive capacity for responding ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Diversity and its Impact on Organizational Performance: The Influence of Diversity Constructions on Expectations and Outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Technology Management & Innovation, 2011
Diversity and diverse integration viewpoints into organizations are pertinent in a world of shifting demographic patterns and work practices. The challenge of implementing diversity in organizations is increased by the lack of clarification regarding the

Short-term effects of experimental trampling on alpine grasslands in Shangri-la, China

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2020
Alpine grasslands provide essential ecosystem functions and services, yet they are increasingly subject to anthropogenic perturbations. Northwest Yunnan (NWY) is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, and alpine grasslands of NWY are ...

Soil nematode communities in grasslands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis summarizes the results of five studies investigating the effect of plant species on soil nematode communities in grasslands. Nematodes (roundworms) are ubiquitous members of the soil fauna and have been much used as indicators of soil ...

Microbial residence time is a controlling parameter of the taxonomic composition and functional profile of microbial communities. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A remaining challenge within microbial ecology is to understand the determinants of richness and diversity observed in environmental microbial communities.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Improving understanding of the functional diversity of fisheries by exploring the influence of global catch reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Functional diversity is thought to enhance ecosystem resilience, driving research focused on trends in the functional composition of fisheries, most recently with new reconstructions of global catch data.
