There is increasing evidence to support a gene economy model that is fully based on the principles of evolution in which a limited number of proteins does not necessarily reflect a finite number of biochemical processes. The concept of 'gene sharing' proposes that a single protein can have alternate functions that are typically attributed to other ...

Diverse CD1d-restricted T cells: diverse phenotypes, and diverse functions
Seminars in Immunology, 2000Invariant CD1d-restricted T cells express NK cell markers and use a limited TCR repertoire. Here, we describe a second CD1d-restricted T cell subset that uses a diverse TCR repertoire. These T cells can also express NK cell markers and function similarly to invariant T cells. The antigens recognized by the diverse subset are likely to be different from

Functional diversity of compound libraries
Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2000The ideal designed screening library should contain compounds with a variety of structural shapes and molecular properties, while avoiding redundancies. Other requirements involve the need to find structurally distinct leads and to recognise drug-like molecules. Functional diversity analysis is one way in which these objectives can be achieved.

Functional diversity may be summarized using indices based on trait values and species importance in the community, like abundance, cover and biomass. This chapter includes taxonomy of the indices based upon the information they used and the output they offer.

Introducing Functional Diversity
2022The question how we can reliably estimate the lexical diversity of a particular text (collection) has often been asked by linguists and literary scholars alike. This short paper introduces a way of operationalizing functional diversity measurements by means of token-based embeddings, and argues that functional diversity is not only a practically ...

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discuss the problematic nature of librarian attitudes toward people with disabilities and how a language change to the use of the term “functionally diverse” can highlight a greater sense of inclusion and equality, as well as develop a new type of literacy that focuses on understanding and awareness of ...

Diverse Functional Indications
2010This chapter concerns functional indications other than trigeminal neuralgia. Tic douloureux has established itself as a major indication whilst the contribution of GKNS to other functional indications is a lot less clear. This is mildly ironic since the original Gamma Unit was specifically designed to treat Parkinson’s disease and attempts were also ...
