Disturbance decoupled functional observers
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1999Summary: If a state observer does not exist, it is possible to design a functional observer. Principally, this is also true for systems with unknown inputs (termed as disturbances). Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of disturbance decoupled functional observers for linear time-invariant systems are provided.

Observations on the Functions of the Brain
The New England Journal of Medicine, Surgery and Collateral Branches of ScienceAbstract The observations comprised in this paper, are selected from those cases of injury to the brain which have occurred to the author in the course of his professional pursuits. The facts thus accidentally forced upon his notice, may be regarded as so many experiments made on different portions of the living brain; and the remarks

Modified parameterization of functional observers
Proceedings of the 2000 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.00CH36334), 2000A modified parameterization of functional observers is characterized. A free parameter in observers is restricted within the ring of strictly proper stable rational matrices. The order of observers is lower than the previous ones by the number of output.

Observing a function of the state
1973 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control including the 12th Symposium on Adaptive Processes, 1973This paper discusses a well known change of co-ordinates for multiple output systems from a different viewpoint, and a new, simplified, low order observer design. The discussion of the transformation given here exhibits more of the system structure than previous presentations.

What is the minimum function observer order
2003 European Control Conference (ECC), 1998The design of a minimal order observer estimating a given function \(Kx(t)\) of the state vector \(x(t)\) for given observer poles and \(K\) is considered. The design problem is reduced to a set of linear equations \(K= K_z\text{diag}(c_1,\dots, c_r)D\), where \(r\) is the observer order, \(D\) is determined and the other parameters are free.

A Functional Ontology of Observation and Measurement
2009An ontology of observation and measurement is proposed, which models the relevant information processes independently of sensor technology. It is kept at a sufficiently general level to be widely applicable as well as compatible with a broad range of existing and evolving sensor and measurement standards.

Generalized functional observer
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1990A functional observer and state feedback are proposed for singular systems in the polynomial fraction form that requires no impulsive mode elimination. The order of the compensator is determined by the newly defined generalized observability index that is associated with the McMillan degree of the system.

Observations on weight functions
Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements, 1989Abstract This is a synopsis of the many facets of weight functions in two and three dimensions. Some new results are given for special cracks under plane strain deformation; for planar cracks in three-space it is shown how special Boussinesq-Papkovich potentials for mode I deformation can be used to construct weight functions for the shearing modes.

Observables in Terms of Antonymous and Observable Functions
2018In this chapter we will introduce the notions of antonymous and observable functions put forward in [18]. These are utilised to express the physical quantise \(\breve {\delta }(\hat {A})\) corresponding to the self-adjoint operators \(\hat {A}\) in a more efficient way, which does not relay on calculating the approximations of \(\breve {\delta }(\hat ...

The Strong Functional Observers
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1984Abstract Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of strong functional observer are given. The class of all reconstructable state-input functions for linear system with unknown input is stated. An algorithm of observer matrices calculation is proposed.
