Implicit Perceptions of Closeness From the Direct Eye Gaze
Eye gaze plays an important role during social interaction. Specifically, different eye gaze directions may send different functional messages to the observers, who have the capacity to automatically interpret these signals. In the present study, we used

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Quantum properties of a non-Gaussian state in the large-N approximation
We study the properties of a non-Gaussian density matrix for a O(N) scalar field in the context of the incomplete description picture. This is of relevance for studies of decoherence and entropy production in quantum field theory. In particular, we study

The Physical Role of Gravitational and Gauge Degrees of Freedom in General Relativity - I: Dynamical Synchronization and Generalized Inertial Effects [PDF]
This is the first of a couple of papers in which, by exploiting the capabilities of the Hamiltonian approach to general relativity, we get a number of technical achievements that are instrumental both for a disclosure of \emph{new} results concerning ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Automatic processing of unattended object features by functional connectivity
Observers can selectively attend to object features that are relevant for a task. However, unattended task-irrelevant features may still be processed and possibly integrated with the attended features.

An energy-based state observer for dynamical subsystems with inaccessible state variables [PDF]
This work presents an energy-based state estimation formalism for a class of dynamical systems with inaccessible/ unknown outputs, and systems at which sensor utilization is impractical, or when measurements can not be taken.
