Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Functional Principal Components Analysis on the Example of the Achievements of Students in the Years 2009-2017

open access: yesEkonometria, 2019
The functional principal components analysis joins the advantages of the principal components analysis and provide analysis of dynamic data. The main difference in both methods is the type of data the PCA is based on multivariate data, whereas the FPCA ...

Temporal patterns in count-to-ten fetal movement charts and their associations with pregnancy characteristics: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2012
Background Fetal movement counting has long been suggested as a screening tool to identify impaired placental function. However, quantitative limits for decreased fetal movement perform poorly for screening purposes, indicating the need for ...

Regularized Multivariate Functional Principal Component Analysis

open access: yes, 2023
Multivariate Functional Principal Component Analysis (MFPCA) is a valuable tool for exploring relationships and identifying shared patterns of variation in multivariate functional data. However, controlling the roughness of the extracted Principal Components (PCs) can be challenging.

Defining probability density for a distribution of random functions

open access: yes, 2010
The notion of probability density for a random function is not as straightforward as in finite-dimensional cases. While a probability density function generally does not exist for functional data, we show that it is possible to develop the notion of ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Dynamics of Interest Rate Curve by Functional Auto-regression [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper applies methods of functional data analysis – functional auto-regression, principal components and canonical correlations – to the study of the dynamics of interest rate curve.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

An analysis of pacing profiles in sprint kayak racing using functional principal components and hidden Markov models.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
This study analysed sprint kayak pacing profiles in order to categorise and compare an athlete's race profile throughout their career. We used functional principal component analysis of normalised velocity data for 500m and 1000m races to quantify pacing.

Varying-coefficient functional linear regression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Functional linear regression analysis aims to model regression relations which include a functional predictor. The analog of the regression parameter vector or matrix in conventional multivariate or multiple-response linear regression models is a ...
