Towards a Parallel Virtual Machine for Functional Logic Programming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Functional logic programming is a multi-paradigm programming that combines the best features of functional programming and logic programming. Functional programming provides mechanisms for demand-driven evaluation, higher order functions and polymorphic ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Linear and undulating resistance training programming induce similar outcomes on physical fitness in elderly women

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano
The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of two different types of resistance training programming (linear and daily undulating) on submaximal strength and functional capacity in elderly women.

Software Measurement for Functional Programming [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis presents an investigation into the usefulness of software measurement techniques, also known as software metrics, for software written in functional programming languages such as Haskell.

Lazy Evaluation of Functional Programming Languages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Lazy evaluation is an evaluation strategy in programming languages. Lazy evaluation delays the evaluation of an expression until its value is needed. With lazy evaluation, there are some advantages.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Functional programming with sets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Set abstraction, originally introduced in fuctional languages by Turner, is an appealing construct because it leads to concise definitions of many interesting operations. However, existing approaches treat sets as lists for the sake of efficiency, and thereby sacrifice a simple declarative semantics.
