Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Description of Pairing correlation in Many-Body finite systems with density functional theory

open access: yes, 2010
Different steps leading to the new functional for pairing based on natural orbitals and occupancies proposed in ref. [D. Lacroix and G. Hupin, arXiv:1003.2860] are carefully analyzed.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Halo phenomenon in finite many-fermion systems. Atom-positron complexes and large-scale study of atomic nuclei

open access: yes, 2009
The analysis method proposed in Ref. \cite{rotival07a} is applied to characterize halo properties in finite many-fermion systems. First, the versatility of the method is highlighted by applying it to light and medium-mass nuclei as well as to atom ...

Properties of d’Alembert functions

open access: yesAequationes mathematicae, 2009
We study properties of solutions f of d’Alembert’s functional equations on a topological group G. For nilpotent groups and for connected, solvable Lie groups G, we prove that f has the form \(f(x) = (\gamma(x)+\gamma(x^{-1}))/2, x \in G\), where γ is a continuous homomorphism of G into the multiplicative group \({\mathbb{C}} \setminus \{0\}\).

Functional Properties of Natural Dyed Textiles

open access: yesChemistry and Technology of Natural and Synthetic Dyes and Pigments, 2020
Recently, due to harmful effect of climate change and other environmental concerns, the interest towards natural dyes has gained momentum. Presently in this high technological era, only aesthetic appeal of natural dyes could not get full attention of ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.
