Metamorphoses of Functional Shapes in Sobolev Spaces [PDF]
In this paper, we describe in detail a model of geometric-functional variability between fshapes. These objects were introduced for the first time by the authors in [Charlier et al. 2015] and are basically the combination of classical deformable manifolds with additional scalar signal map. Building on the aforementioned work, this paper's contributions

ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Shape-Constrained Estimation of Value Functions [PDF]
We present a fully nonparametric method to estimate the value function, via simulation, in the context of expected infinite-horizon discounted rewards for Markov chains. Estimating such value functions plays an important role in approximate dynamic programming and applied probability in general.

ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Objects seen as scenes: Neural circuitry for attending whole or parts
Depending on our goals, we pay attention to the global shape of an object or to the local shape of its parts, since it’s difficult to do both at once. This typically effortless process can be impaired in disease.

An algorithm for generation of behavioral shape functions [PDF]
In this paper, we present a new algorithm for analyzing performance/cost tradeoffs in interactive synthesis of DSP algorithms. Our algorithm handles both memories with different access times and pipelined units with different numbers of stages. The output is a shape function illustrating the performance vs. cost tradeoff.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The Shape of Utility Functions and Organizational Behavior [PDF]
Based on measurements among 332 owner-managers, we investigate how the global shape of the utility function (i.e., S-shaped versus concave or convex over the total range of outcomes) relates to choice behavior. We find that the global shape of the utility function differs across decision makers (about one-third of the owner-managers exhibit an S ...
