Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A PDE Method to Segment Image Linear Objects with Application to Lens Distortion Removal

open access: yesELCVIA Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis, 2007
In this paper, we propose a partial differential equation based method to segment image objects, which have a given parametric shape based on energy functional.

Shape-Invariant Demand Functions [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Economics and Statistics, 2010
Abstract Shape invariance is a property of demand functions that is widely used for parametric and semiparametric modeling and is associated with a commonly employed class of equivalence scale models used for welfare calculations. This paper derives the set of all shape-invariant demand functions and associated preferences.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Microstructure, mechanical performance and nucleation mechanism of laser powder bed fused novel Sc/Zr/Ti-modified Al-Mg alloys

open access: yesMaterials & Design
In this study, the modification of 0.70 wt% ScH3 alone did not substantially fine the grain and eliminate the hot-cracking of Al-Mg-Sc alloy, resulting in low strength of as-built material.

Shape optimization of preform design for minimizing plastic work of forging process

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2021
In this study, we present a parameter-free shape optimization method for preform design in forging process. The objective functional is the total plastic work of forging process.

Lobatto Shape Functions

open access: yes, 1993
The application of Lobatto shape functions to atomic and molecular quantum scattering calculations is reviewed, starting with the log derivative version of the Kohn variational principle. The variational basis and discrete variable versions of the theory are both discussed, and shown to be equivalent respectively to high order finite element and finite

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
