Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transformations of harmonic bundles and Willmore surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Willmore surfaces are the extremals of the Willmore functional (possibly under a constraint on the conformal structure). With the characterization of Willmore surfaces by the (possibly perturbed) harmonicity of the mean curvature sphere congruence ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Continuous flow photosynthesis of methanol from methane by plasmonic charge accumulation

open access: yesNature Communications
Direct oxidation of methane (CH4) to methanol (CH3OH) typically requires elevated temperatures and pressures, making it challenging to achieve high yield and selectivity under mild conditions.

Workplace Surfaces as Resource for Social Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Space and spatial arrangements play an important role in our everyday social interactions. The way we use and manage our surrounding space is not coincidental, on the contrary, it reflects the way we think, plan and act.

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

Surfaces in the four-space and the Davey--Stewartson equations

open access: yes, 2004
We show that any equation from the Davey--Stewartson hierarchy induces an infinite family of geometrically different deformations of tori in $\R^4$ preserving the Willmore functional.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Liquid-based materials for air purification

open access: yesReview of Materials Research
Enhancing air quality has garnered increasing global attention as a critical environmental issue, necessitating advanced purification technologies to address limitations of traditional solid-based systems, including rapid clogging and restricted dust ...

Density-functional study of hydrogen chemisorption on vicinal Si(001) surfaces

open access: yes, 1998
Relaxed atomic geometries and chemisorption energies have been calculated for the dissociative adsorption of molecular hydrogen on vicinal Si(001) surfaces.
