On the Thin Film Muskat and the Thin Film Stokes Equations [PDF]
The present paper is concerned with the analysis of two strongly coupled systems of degenerate parabolic partial differential equations arising in multiphase thin film flows. In particular, we consider the two-phase thin film Muskat problem and the two-phase thin film approximation of the Stokes flow under the influence of both, capillary and ...

Thin-Film Metamaterials Called Sculptured Thin Films [PDF]
Morphology and performance are conjointed attributes of metamaterials, of which sculptured thin films (STFs) are examples. STFs are assemblies of nanowires that can be fabricated from many different materials, typically via physical vapor deposition onto rotating substrates.

Protein thin film machines [PDF]
We report the first example of microcantilever beams that are reversibly driven by protein thin film machines fueled by cycling the salt concentration of the surrounding solution. We also show that upon the same salinity stimulus the drive can be completely reversed in its direction by introducing a surface coating ligand.

Functional thin films on surfaces
The motion of a thin viscous film of fluid on a curved surface exhibits many intricate visual phenomena, which are challenging to simulate using existing techniques. A possible alternative is to use a reduced model, involving only the temporal evolution of the mass density of the film on the surface.

Thin film transistors and thin film transistor circuits [PDF]
In this paper the possible circuit applications of thin film transistors, made by shadow masks, are discussed. Special attention is paid to the basic parameters determining the circuit properties.

Films of ZnO, AlN, LiNbO3, Bi12PbO19, K3Li2Nb5O15, PbTiO3, PZT, Li2B4O7 and Ta2O5 have been fabricated mainly by rf magnetron sputtering. Among these films, the ZnO piezoelectric films have been widely put into practical uses. The AlN films have been also studied along with ZnO films due to its higher ultrasonic velocity, higher electrical resistance ...
