Functionalized surfaces and surface functionalization of nanomaterials
Nature leads, we follow. But nanotechnologists are in hot pursuit, in designing controllable structures that can mimic naturally occurring and artificially synthesized materials on a common platform. The supramolecular chemistry concerns the investigation of nature principles to produce fascinating complexed and functional molecular assemblies, as well

Finite size effects in adsorption of helium mixtures by alkali substrates
We investigate the behavior of mixed 3He-4He droplets on alkali surfaces at zero temperature, within the frame of Finite Range Density Functional theory. The properties of one single 3He atom on 4He_N4 droplets on different alkali surfaces are addressed,

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Tribological manufacturing of ZDDP tribofilms functionalised by graphene nanoplatelets
3D Tribo-Nanoprinting (3D TNP), which uses a highly controllable tribological contact to deposit tribofilms, has been proposed as a manufacturing method for nanoscale structures.

Plasmon-Assisted Direction- and Polarization-Sensitive Organic Thin-Film Detector
Utilizing Bragg surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on metal nanostructures for the use in optical devices has been intensively investigated in recent years. Here, we demonstrate the integration of nanostructured metal electrodes into an ITO-free thin film

Subharmonic Functions and Minimal Surfaces [PDF]
If (1) holds, y(u, v) is said to be the conjugate harmonic function of x(u, v), or if (3) holds, x(u, v) is said to be the conjugate harmonic function of y(u, v); generally, if (2) holds then x(u, v), y(u, v) will be called a couple of conjugate harmonic functions. 0.2. Generalizing this situation to the case of three functions x(u, v), y(u, v), z(u, v)

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Self‐Healing Functional Surfaces
AbstractDuring the last decade extensive research has focused on designing functional surfaces, e.g., with self‐cleaning, antibacterial, or antifouling properties, driven by the industrial demand on innovation and sustainability, and the academic interest in new functional materials.

Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.
