Fetal Brain Abnormalities Following Laser Surgery for Twin‐to‐Twin Transfusion Syndrome: Imaging Patterns and Evolution

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Severe brain injury has been reported following fetoscopic laser ablation (FLA) for twin‐to‐twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), but imaging patterns and temporal evolution remain poorly defined. This study aimed to characterize the progression of severe brain injury after FLA. Methods We conducted a retrospective case series of TTTS

Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation in Mitral Valve Disease [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 2018
Functional tricuspid regurgitation is a common finding in patients with left-sided heart disease. If left untreated, it may reduce survival, limit functional capacity and cause end-organ dysfunction. Annulus dilation and leaflet tethering due to right ventricle remodeling are 2 major pathophysiologic mechanisms in functional tricuspid regurgitation ...

Morphological Assessment of the Tricuspid Apparatus and Grading Regurgitation Severity in Patients With Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation: Thinking Outside the Box

open access: yes, 2019
Current guidelines recommend transthoracic echocardiography to assess patients with functional tricuspid regurgitation (FTR) because it provides information regarding the presence of structural abnormalities of the tricuspid valve (TV), allows ...

Thrombocytosis and the generation of platelet‐derived microparticles in the pathophysiology of sickle cell disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Thrombocytosis is associated with an increased production of platelet‐derived microparticles from activated platelets, which contribute to vaso‐occlusion in sickle cell disease by perpetuating the cycle of inflammation, procoagulant state and endothelial dysfunction.

Mitral regurgitation and decompensated heart failure in a young pregnant pony mare: An aetiological challenge

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary A 4‐year‐old, 6‐month pregnant, Welsh pony mare presented with severe acute clinical signs including depression, anorexia, pale mucous membranes, tachycardia with a grade 4/6 holosystolic murmur and moderate expiratory dyspnoea with diffuse wheezes. There was no evidence of placentitis or fetal distress.

Determinants of functional tricuspid regurgitation in incomplete tricuspid valve closure: Doppler color flow study of 109 patients

open access: yes, 1994
Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the pattern of incomplete tricuspid valve closure and the presence of tricuspid regurgitation and to identify factors that determine the severity of regurgitation associated ...

Predictors of Failure after DeVega Repair for Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation

open access: yes, 2021
Background: Untreated tricuspid regurgitation during mitral valve surgery may progress to severe symptomatic tricuspid regurgitation. Concomitant repair may increase the operative risk; however, re-operative tricuspid valve surgery is a high-risk ...

Understanding right ventricular dysfunction and functional tricuspid regurgitation accompanying mitral valve disease

open access: yes, 2013
OBJECTIVES: The study objective was to correlate the degree of tricuspid regurgitation with clinical indicators of right-sided heart failure and both qualitative and quantitative measures of right-sided heart morphology and function in patients with ...

Is concomitant tricuspid valve repair in patients undergoing robotic mitral valve repair safe and effective?Central MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open
Objectives: Robotic-assisted mitral valve repair (MVr) is a well-established procedure for management of degenerative mitral valve disease. Limited data regarding concomitant robotic-assisted tricuspid valve repair (TVr) is available.

Right atrial volume is a major determinant of tricuspid annulus area in functional tricuspid regurgitation: a three-dimensional echocardiographic study

open access: yes, 2021
The aim of this study is to explore the relationships of tricuspid annulus area (TAA) with right atrial maximal volume (RAVmax) and right ventricular end-diastolic volume (RVEDV) in healthy subjects and patients with functional tricuspid regurgitation ...
