Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Functional Dependence and Analytic Functions [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1979
AbstractWithout appealing to the Cauchy theorem or its corollaries, it is proved that the real and imaginary parts of a non-constant complex-valued analytic function of several complex variables are functionally independent. This unifies and generalizes some results sporadically treated in standard treatises on function theory.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Novel neo-clerodane diterpenoids from Teucrium quadrifarium and their anti-ferroptosis effect

open access: yesNatural Products and Bioprospecting
Teucrifarides A–D (1–4), four previously unreported neo-clerodane-type diterpenoids, combined with sixteen known analogs (5–20), were purified from Teucrium quadrifarium.

Nitrogen Fixation through the Plasma/Liquid Interfacial Reaction with Controlled Conditions of Each Phase as the Reaction Locus

open access: yesElectrochemistry, 2020
In the plasma/liquid (P/L) interfacial reaction, nitrogen fixation is performed on a water phase surface. In the P/L reaction, discharged nitrogen gas reacts with water molecules at the interface between the plasma gas phase and the water phase, followed

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

eys+/-; lrp5+/− Zebrafish Reveals Lrp5 Can Be the Receptor of Retinol in the Visual Cycle

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Vision is essential for vertebrates including humans. Sustained vision is accomplished by retinoid metabolism, the “visual cycle,” where all-trans retinol (atROL) is incorporated into the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) from photoreceptors ...
