Spectral Classification of Faint Carbon Stars

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2003
R-N classification of 187 faint carbon stars is based on the classical criteria adjusted to the yellow-red spectral region, with two new criteria added - the ratios of the red CN bands 6206/6332 (Å) and 6478/6631 (Å).

The First Comprehensive Photometric Study of the Neglected Binary System V345 Cassiopeiae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2013
We present the first BVRI CCD photometric observations of V345 Cas made on 22 nights during the observing seasons in 2007-2008. Our light curves, resembling those of EB-type binary stars, are analyzed with the 2003 version of the Wilson- Devinney ...

Luminosity and Intrinsic Color Calibration of Main-Sequence Stars With 2Mass Photometry: All Sky Local Extinction

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2003
We present a new color index vs. absolute magnitude calibration of 2MASS JHK photometry. For the A0 to ~G5 and M segments of the main sequence information on the amount of interstellar extinction and its location in space may be obtained.

The First Photometric Study of NSVS 1461538: A New W-subtype Contact Binary with a Low Mass Ratio and Moderate Fill-out Factor [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2016
New multiband BVRI light curves of NSVS 1461538 were obtained as a byproduct during the photometric observations of our program star PV Cas for three years from 2011 to 2013.

Fundamental Parameters and Models of Stellar Atmospheres [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1985
The use of photometric and spectroscopic criteria, calibrated by model-atmosphere calculations, for determining effective temperatures, surface gravities and chemical compositions of stars is illustrated and commented on. The accuracy that can be obtained today in such calibrations is discussed, as well as possible ways of improving this accuracy ...

Moving in the Dark: Enlightening the Spatial Population Ecology of European Cave Salamanders

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We assessed individual interactions, movement ecology and activity patterns of a subterranean population of Speleomantes strinatii, applying spatial capture–recapture modeling to a photographic dataset of 104 individuals. ABSTRACT Space use and movement are fundamental aspects of organisms' ecology, mirroring individual fitness, behavior, and life ...

Infection Models for Pine Wilt Disease on the Basis of Vector Behaviors

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Infection models for pine wilt disease without vector density were built to estimate the transmission coefficient of the pathogenic nematode. The models successfully simulated the annual change in the density of infected trees for four pine stands. ABSTRACT Pine wilt disease is caused by the pinewood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus Steiner et ...

Operational definition of (brane induced) space-time and constraints on the fundamental parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
First we contemplate the operational definition of space-time in four dimensions in light of basic principles of quantum mechanics and general relativity and consider some of its phenomenological consequences.

On the Component Masses of Visual Binaries [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2010
In the Sixth Catalog of Orbits of Visual Binary Stars we found those belonging to the Main Sequence to form a sample containing 432 visual binaries. Their total masses were obtained dynamically, i.e.
