Robust detection of microaneurysms for sight threatening retinopathy screening [PDF]
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the major causes of blindness. However diabetic retinopathy does not usually cause a loss of sight until it has reached an advanced stage.

Dissecting the angiogenic mechanism of pachychoroid polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy
A prognosis‐oriented classification system was established to distinguish Pachy PCV from Non‐pachy PCV using a large multicenter dataset. Comparative plasma multi‐omics profiling of Pachy PCV, Non‐pachy PCV, and normal controls revealed unique upregulation of the fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis (FSS‐AS) and HIF‐1 signaling pathways in Pachy PCV.

Accurate optic disc (OD) segmentation is an important step in obtaining cup-to-disc ratio-based glaucoma screening using fundus imaging. It is a challenging task because of the subtle OD boundary, blood vessel occlusion and intensity inhomogeneity.

Enhanced Myometrial Vascularity (EMV) is a serious gynecological condition that often leads to abnormal uterine bleeding. Malformation size and involvement of the uterine fundus are significant risk factors. If EMV diameter > 3.85 cm, the bleeding of the patient is more likely to result in failure in UAE treatment.

Visualization of the Persistent Avascular Retina with Ultra-Widefield Green Reflectance Imaging
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine which color imaging facilitated easier detection of the persistent avascular retina (PAR) in ultra-widefield (UWF) fundus imaging in children undergoing retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Methods: A total

Abstract Gastroduodenal bezoars are masses of indigestible material that accumulate within the stomach and may lead to obstruction. We present a young female who presented with abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, and was found to have a large gastric bezoar extending into the duodenum, resulting in gastroduodenal intussusception.

Group ingestion of high‐powered magnets in children—A clinical and public health challenge
Abstract High‐powered magnets are a preventable cause of serious gastrointestinal injury in children, with ingestion often resulting in hospitalization and occasionally surgery. We report six classmates, aged 5–6 years, who ingested high‐powered magnets during a single school day after mistaking them for candy. All presented to our emergency department

ABSTRACT Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) is a genetic disorder found worldwide, but its impact is particularly pronounced in the African continent. This results from both a higher prevalence and the persistent myths and superstitions surrounding the condition in many African communities.

Automated Tessellated Fundus Detection in Color Fundus Images
In this work, we propose an automated tessellated fundus detection method by utilizing texture features and color features. Color moments, Local Binary Patterns (LBP), and Histograms of Oriented Gradients (HOG) are extracted to represent the color fundus image. After feature extraction, a SVM classifier is trained to detect the tessellated fundus. Both
