Linking Plant Metabolomics with Fungal Functional Dynamics Reveals a Noncanonical S‐R‐C Adaptive Trajectory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using field‐based holo‐omics, we demonstrate that developmental shifts in sorghum leaf metabolomes drive a noncanonical fungal succession from stress tolerators (S) through ruderals (R) to competitors (C). Antifungal metabolites in young leaves select for S strategists with expanded genomes, transient maltose pulses during flowering favor fast‐growing ...

Response of Soil Fungal Community Structure to Long-Term Continuous Soybean Cropping [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Long-term continuous soybean cropping can lead to the aggravation of soil fungal disease. However, the manner in which the fungal community and functional groups of fungi are affected by continuous soybean cropping remains unclear. We investigated the fungal abundance, composition and diversity during soybean rotation (RS), 2-year (SS) and long-term ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

A Cationic Supramolecule With Potent Antifungal Activity, Single‐Species Selectivity, and Strong Synergy With Echinocandins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce a new membrane‐active antifungal design, Gua‐SMACS‐16, that exhibits high potency and single‐species selectivity for C. tropicalis while sparing other close species in the Candida genus. Moreover, when combining with caspofungin, a clinical antifungal drug inhibiting 1,3‐β‐glucan synthase, they exhibit ultra‐strong synergy across a panel ...

Are drivers of root-associated fungal community structure context specific? [PDF]

open access: yesISME J, 2019
Abstract The composition and structure of plant-root-associated fungal communities are determined by local abiotic and biotic conditions. However, the relative influence and identity of relationships to abiotic and biotic factors may differ across environmental and ecological contexts, and fungal functional groups.

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.

Contrasting arbuscular mycorrhizal communities colonizing different host plants show a similar response to a soil phosphorus concentration gradient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
High soil phosphorus (P) concentration is frequently shown to reduce root colonization by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, but the influence of P on the diversity of colonizing AM fungi is uncertain.

Integration of Nutrition and Organic Agriculture Framework in Managing Gastrointestinal Nematodes in Ruminants

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Gastrointestinal nematode infections damage the gastrointestinal epithelial tissues of ruminants, affecting nutrient utilization and overall production performance. This review outlines host‐gastrointestinal nematode interactions and discusses integrated control strategies, including nutritional supplementation, grazing management, vaccines, and ...
