Accumulation of hydroxyproline-rich glycoprotein mRNAs in response to fungal elicitor and infection [PDF]
Hydroxyproline-rich glycoproteins (HRGPs) are important structural components of plant cell walls and also accumulate in response to infection as an apparent defense mechanism. Accumulation of HRGP mRNA in biologically stressed bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cells was monitored by blot hybridization with ...

ZZE-Configuration of chromophore ß-153 in C-phycocyanin from Mastigocladus laminosus [PDF]
The photochemistry of C-phycocyanin has been studied after denaturation in the dark. It shows an irreversible reaction which has characteristics of a Ζ,Ζ,Ε- to Z,Z,Z-isomerization of dihydrobilins. Its amplitude depends on the reaction conditions, with

Chitinase cDNA Cloning and mRNA Induction by Fungal Elicitor, Wounding, and Infection [PDF]
Chitinase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of beta-1,4 N-acetylglucosamine linkages of the fungal cell wall polymer chitin, is a component of the inducible defenses of plants. We show that chitinase synthesis is stimulated in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cell suspension cultures treated with fungal cell wall elicitors and in hypocotyls in response to ...

Tropospheric ozone as a fungal elicitor
Tropospheric ozone has been proven to trigger biochemical plant responses that are similar to the ones induced by an attack of fungal pathogens,i.e. it resembles fungal elicitors. This suggests that ozone can represent a valid tool for the study of stress responses and induction of resistance to pathogens.

Induction of Sesquiterpenoid Biosynthesis in Tobacco Cell Suspension Cultures by Fungal Elicitor [PDF]
Large amounts of the sesquiterpenoid capsidiol accumulated in the media of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv KY14) cell suspension cultures upon addition of fungal elicitor. Capsidiol accumulation was proportional to the amount of elicitor added. The accumulation of capsidiol was preceded by a transient increase in the capsidiol de novo synthesis rate ...

Selection and validation of potato candidate genes for maturity corrected resistance to Phytophthora infestans based on differential expression combined with SNP association and linkage mapping. [PDF]
Late blight of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) caused by the oomycete Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is one of the most important bottlenecks of potato production worldwide.

Germin and germin-like proteins: evolution, structure, and function [PDF]
Germin and germin-like proteins (GLPs) are encoded by a family of genes found in all plants. They are part of the cupin superfamily of biochemically diverse proteins, a superfamily that has a conserved tertiary structure, though with limited similarity ...

Parsley protoplasts retain differential responsiveness to u.v. light and fungal elicitor [PDF]
The differential response of cultured parsley cells to u.v. irradiation and elicitor treatment is a paradigm for analysis of specific plant defense responses. We demonstrate that freshly isolated parsley protoplasts, in the absence of detectable cell wall, maintain fully the ability to be activated by these important environmental factors.
