Candida glabrata as an aetiological factor of the fulminant course of panophthalmitis
Introduction The role of fungi in infections in immunocompromised patients is a growing problem in both diagnosis and treatment. Candida species are the most common cause of fungal, endogenous endophthalmitis and infections of the cornea.

LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS FOR FUNGAL INFECTION OF ORAL CAVITY : AN EAGLE EYE VEIW
The incidence of invasive infections caused by fungi has been increasing for the last few decades. This is primarily due to the significant increases in the populations of at-risk patients; this includes those receiving immunosuppressive chemotherapy for various malignancies, solid organ transplant recipients and those receiving prolonged steroid ...

ITS2 REGION-BASED MOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION OF FUNGAL PATHOGENS IN EQUINE CORNEAL ULCERATION [PDF]
This study aimed to assess the utility of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing in diagnosing fungal ulcerative keratitis in horses and compare their sensitivity with conventional microbiologic techniques used in laboratories.

A novel cassette method for probe evaluation in the designed biochips [PDF]
A critical step in biochip design is the selection of probes with identical hybridisation characteristics. In this article we describe a novel method for evaluating DNA hybridisation probes, allowing the fine-tuning of biochips, that uses cassettes with ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Sub-retinal abscess as presenting feature of endogenous Candida endophthalmitis
Background Sub-retinal abscess as the presenting feature in the setting of endogenous fungal endophthalmitis is extremely infrequent. Immunodeficiency states are major predisposing risk factors. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report

We introduce a new membrane‐active antifungal design, Gua‐SMACS‐16, that exhibits high potency and single‐species selectivity for C. tropicalis while sparing other close species in the Candida genus. Moreover, when combining with caspofungin, a clinical antifungal drug inhibiting 1,3‐β‐glucan synthase, they exhibit ultra‐strong synergy across a panel ...
