Microbiota–Neuroinflammation Crosstalk in Primary Brain Tumors: Focus on Glioblastoma

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Microbiota–neuroinflammation crosstalk in GBM. The schematic summarizes how gut microbiota and microbiota‐derived signals may influence GBM biology through gut–brain signaling, microbial metabolites, systemic immune modulation, BBB‐related pathways, tumor‐associated microbial signals, and immune‐metabolic changes within the GBM microenvironment.

A roadmap to key traits of invasive Drosophilidae

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 1805-1829, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions have intensified in recent decades, mostly driven by international trade and travel, raising significant concerns, particularly regarding insect pests. Once non‐native species establish, they can disrupt natural ecosystem stability, undermine agroecosystem sustainability and cause substantial economic losses.

Black Hairy Tongue in a 54‐Day‐Old Infant: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Black hairy tongue is a benign condition caused by elongation and defective desquamation of the filiform papillae, and it is uncommon in neonates and infants. We report a case in a 54‐day‐old girl who presented with a black lesion on the tongue dorsum.

Effects of ketogenic and low‐carbohydrate diet on glucose and weight control in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients along with metabolome change

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 4, August 2026.
Both the low‐carbohydrate diet (LCD) and the ketogenic diet (KD) positively affect body weight and glucose metabolism in type 2 diabetes. Metabolomic signatures sensitively reflect each diet and correlate with clinical improvements – distinct metabolite associations with glycated haemoglobin and weight were identified for LCD versus KD.

Effects of Timing of Microbial Exposure on Microbiome Assembly and Amphibian Immune Development

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We used a novel amphibian gnotobiotic system to investigate how disruptions to the microbiome during critical developmental periods influence microbial assembly and the development of immunity. We found that antimicrobial treatments of embryos and subsequent introduction to microbes at different developmental stages altered microbiome assembly ...

Differentiation of the Foliar Microbiomes From Co‐Occurring Grass Species Reflects Their Recency of Invasion

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study examined the foliar fungal and bacterial microbiomes of two co‐occurring invasive grasses, recently introduced Oplismenus undulatifolius and long‐established Microstegium vimineum. Oplismenus communities exhibited lower diversity within samples and greater turnover between samples.
