Fungal Peritonitis in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients
Peritoneal Dialysis International: Journal of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, 2005Peritonitis is one of the most frequent complications of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and 1% – 15% of episodes are caused by fungal infections. The mortality rate of fungal peritonitis (FP) varies from 5% to 53%; failure to resume PD occurs in up to 40% of patients. The majority of these FP episodes are caused by Candida species.

Fungal Peritonitis in Patients on Peritoneal Dialysis
American Journal of Nephrology, 1994Fungal peritonitis (FP) is a serious complication of peritoneal dialysis, both in terms of morbidity and mortality. Available data on the effectiveness of fluconazole in eradicating FP without catheter removal are still controversial. We reviewed 20 FP cases that occurred among 325 patients who underwent peritoneal dialysis in our center between ...

The factors related to fungal peritonitis in patients on peritoneal dialysis
Current Medical Science, 1997Fungal peritonitis (FP) is a serious infectious complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD). This retrospective study was conducted in 11 cases of FP among 64 cases of patients with bacterial peritonitis (BP). Our results showed that age and sex underlying disease did not correlate significantly with the development of FP (P > 0.05), while long-term ...

Fungal Peritonitis in Patients on Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1983Fungal peritonitis is a rare complication in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. We report five recent cases and their management. The fungi isolated were Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis, Exophiala jeanselmei, Drechslera spicifera, and a Fusarium species. Chemotherapy was attempted with various regimens including oral ketoconazole,

Mycotic peritonitis can be demonstrated by microbiological, histological and serological tests. The disease can be proved histologically by a deep invasion of fungi. Initially, the mycotic peritonitis can be caused by polymicrobial infections and also by genuine mycotic invasion after perforation of the gastrointestinal tract. In the final phase of the

Current concepts in the management of fungal peritonitis
Current Infectious Disease Reports, 2003Fungal pathogens are uncommon isolates in the setting of peritonitis. Secondary peritonitis results from a breach in the gastrointestinal tract with gross contamination of the peritoneum. Peritonitis in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis represents a unique form of secondary peritonitis often caused by nosocomial bacteria and fungi.

Posthysteroscopy Fungal Peritonitis in a Patient on Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 1993We report the first case of posthysteroscopy fungal peritonitis, which developed in a woman 11 days after she had a hysteroscopy for menorrhagia. A high vaginal swab grew Candida albicans and the same organism was cultured from the peritoneal dialysate effluent.
