Effect of Potassium Ions on Protoplast Generation during Yeast Induction from Mucor circinelloides Tieghem

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Mucor circinelloides aerobically exhibits coenocytic thallic growth habit with straight and circinate sporangiophores which culminate in globose or pyriform columellae enclosed within sporangial walls. It undergoes dimorphic switch with its conversion to multipolar budding yeast‐like cells or thallic conidia.

Allergic Responses Induced by a Fungal Biopesticide Metarhizium anisopliae and House Dust Mite Are Compared in a Mouse Model

open access: yesJournal of Toxicology, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Biopesticides can be effective in controlling their target pest. However, research regarding allergenicity and asthma development is limited. We compared the ability of fungal biopesticide Metarhizium anisopliae (MACA) and house dust mite (HDM) extracts to induce allergic responses in BALB/c mice.

Identificação da microbiota fúngica de ambientes considerados assépticos Identification of the fungic microbiota isolated in areas considered aseptic

Traditional and Modern Biomedical Prospecting: Part II—The Benefits

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 2, Page 133-144, 2004., 2004
The progress in molecular and cell biology has enabled a rational exploitation of the natural resources of the secondary metabolites and biomaterials from sponges (phylum Porifera). It could be established that these natural substances are superior for biomedical application to those obtained by the traditional combinatorial chemical approach.

Drug discovery from Nature: automated high‐quality sample preparation

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Methods in Chemistry, Volume 22, Issue 5, Page 149-157, 2000., 2000
Secondary metabolites from plants, animals and microorganisms have been proven to be an outstanding source for new and innovative drugs and show a striking structural diversity that supplements chemically synthesized compounds or libraries in drug discovery programs. Unfortunately, extracts from natural sources are usually complex mixtures of compounds:

Contribution of fungi to primary biogenic aerosols in the atmosphere: wet and dry discharged spores, carbohydrates, and inorganic ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Biogenic aerosols play important roles in atmospheric chemistry physics, the biosphere, climate, and public health. Here, we show that fungi which actively discharge their spores with liquids into the air, in particular actively wet spore discharging ...

Socioeconomic Status and Childhood Atopy

open access: yesCanadian Respiratory Journal, Volume 3, Issue 1, Page 53-57, 1996., 1996
BACKGROUND: Variation in the prevalence of allergic disorders among socioeconomic groups could be due either to differences in the type of allergens encountered or to actual differences in susceptibility to sensitization to any particular antigen. OBJECTIVE: To examine the relationship of skin test positivity to inhaled aeroallergens and socioeconomic ...

Factors determining the occurrence of Flat Bugs (Aradidae) in beech dominated forests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The habitat requirements of most Aradidae and the decisive factors that influence their occurrence are still poorly understood. To reduce this lack of knowledge a standardised survey of Aradidae in two large beech forest areas of Bavaria (northern ...
