Investigation on the Low-Temperature Transformations of Poly(furfuryl alcohol) Deposited on MCM-41 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
MCM-41-type mesoporous silica was used as a support for poly(furfuryl alcohol) deposition. This material was produced by precipitation–polycondensation of furfuryl alcohol (FA) in aqueous slurry of the SiO2 support followed by controlled partial ...

Potential of Waste Biomass from the Sugar Industry as a Source of Furfural and Its Derivatives for Use as Fuel Additives in Poland

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Poland is one of the leading producers of sugar from sugar beet in Europe. However, the production of sugar generates large amounts of lignocellulosic waste, in the form of beet pulp and leaves.

Inert Catalytic Sites Unlocked by Micropollutants for Rapid Water Decontamination with Near‐Complete Chemical Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Micropollutants can act as molecular triggers that activate a newly designed and chemically inert Fenton‐like PKU‐24 catalyst for on‐demand singlet oxygen generation from peroxymonosulfate (PMS), enabling nearly complete peroxide utilization and selective micropollutant removal from complex real‐world wastewater.

Carbon Membranes Prepared from Poly (Furfuryl Alcohol–Furfural) Precursors: Effect of FeCl3 Additive

open access: yesC, 2020
Thermosetting resins, such as poly (furfuryl alcohol), are efficient precursors for preparation of carbon membranes with molecular sieving properties. Polymerization of furfuryl alcohol is catalyzed by Bronsted or Lewis acids.

Cobalt Single‐Atom Catalysts for Ultrafast Sulfamethoxazole Degradation: Unveiling the Chloride‐Ion‐Enhanced Formation of Co(IV)=O

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An atomically dispersed Co–N4 single‐atom catalyst rapidly activates peroxymonosulfate to remove the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole from water. Common ions have little impact, but chloride dramatically speeds degradation by promoting a high‐valent Co(IV) = O oxidant via in situ HOCl–catalyst electron transfer.
