A highly efficient and mild protocol for the synthesis of imidazo-fused polyheterocycles via Groebke–Blackburn–Bienayme reaction under the influence of catalytic amount of lanthanum chloride heptahydrate has been described. A wide range of nitrogen-enriched polyheterocycles are synthesized with high yields under neat conditions.

Synthesis of 1,2,3‐Fused Indole Polyheterocycles by Copper‐Catalyzed Cascade Reaction
A one‐pot reaction has been devloped for the preparation of 1,2,3‐fused indole polyheterocycles by starting from 2‐iodobenzamide and 2‐iodobenzyl cyanide in the presence of a copper catalyst. The cascade process involves the efficient formation of one C–C and three C–N bonds.
