The properties of ionic pair distributions are investigated for a simple fused-salt model. The short-range ion core forces are assumed to be identical for both anions and cations and, although the method is capable of handling mixtures of ions with different charges, only a single fused salt of the symmetrical-valence type is considered.

Conventional organic indicators have been found to be stable and soluble in two dissimilar salt melts and to give colour changes in the presence of acidic and basic reagents very similar to those given in aqueous solutions. The similarity of colour was found to extend to the shape and position of the ultraviolet and visible absorption bands.

ABOUT a year ago I reported measurements on a class of ‘polynuclear’ organic salts of iron and chromium which obeyed the law Xa(T-θ)=C with very large negative values of θ of the order -600 for the iron salts and -100 for those of chromium (Phil. Mag., 6, 481; 1928; and Phys. Rev., 32, 320; 1928).
