Fuzzy mathematical morphology for color images defined by fuzzy preference relations
Pattern Recognition, 2016Nowadays, the representation and the treatment of color images are still open problems. Mathematical morphology is the natural area for a rigorous formulation of many problems in image analysis. Moreover, it comprises powerful non-linear techniques for filtering, texture analysis, shape analysis, edge detection or segmentation.

The original extension of binary mathematical morphology to the gray scale is based upon the lattice-theoretic supremum and infimum operations, its geometric genesis being framed in terms of the umbra transform. Abstract formulation of the mathematical theory is set in the context of complete lattices; nonetheless, as applied to the Euclidean gray ...

A new morphology is proposed which uses fuzzy structuring elements and is internal on fuzzy sets. It is fully compatible with conventional morphology which uses binary structuring elements, either on binary or on grey-tone sets. The properties of the two basic operations, fuzzy dilation and fuzzy erosion, are presented.

The concept of an L-fuzzy set generalizes not only the concept of a fuzzy set but also the concepts of intervalvalued fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy sets (as will become clear in this paper). In addition, the class of L-fuzzy sets forms a complete lattice whenever the underlying set L constitutes a complete lattice. Based on these observations, we

Fuzzy mathematical morphology to analyse astronomical images
Proceedings., 11th IAPR International Conference on Pattern Recognition. Vol. IV. Conference D: Architectures for Vision and Pattern Recognition,, 2003Traditionally, astronomical data are represented by images. X- and gamma-ray telescopes have been designed in order to produce images in these ranges of energy. Data are characterized by low signal embedded in structured background. The paper introduces a new approach, based on fuzzy-morphology, to restore and retrieve structural properties of such ...

Mathematical morphology, order filters and fuzzy logic
Proceedings of 1995 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems. The International Joint Conference of the Fourth IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and The Second International Fuzzy Engineering Symposium, 2002In this paper, we try to establish connections between three different fields, which are mathematical morphology, order filters, and fuzzy logic. It is found that strong similarities between them exist, with respect to their algebraic structure, and tools which are common in fuzzy logic appear to be particular cases of some concepts of mathematical ...

Constructing a fuzzy mathematical morphology: alternative ways
[Proceedings 1993] Second IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, 2002The authors propose two definitions for fuzzy mathematical morphology. They extend the set of possible operations on fuzzy sets by adding morphological operations, taking into account a fuzzy neighborhood. They are compatible with classical mathematical morphology on binary sets or gray-level functions with binary structuring elements. Their properties

Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology Based on Fuzzy Inclusion
2000Fuzzy mathematical morphology has been developed to soften the classical binary morphology so as to make the operators less sensitive to image imprecision. It can also be viewed simply as an alternative gray-scale morphological theory. This chapter discusses the manner in which fuzzy morphologies result from the fuzzification of subsethood by using ...

Blood vessels extraction using Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology
2017 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2017Blood vessel extraction from retinography images is useful for detection of many retinopathies. In this paper we propose a way to improve blood vessel detection by use of Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology (FMM) operators. The proposed pipeline, although simple, was found to have the highest accuracy on the STARE dataset, and second highest on the DRIVE ...
