Equine rotaviruses with G14 serotype specificity circulate among venezuelan horses
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1994Two group A rotavirus strains isolated from diarrheic foals in Venezuela were classified as belonging to G14 serotype by cross-neutralization tests and on the basis of the homology of the sequenced VP7 gene. This report confirms that rotavirus strains of G14 serotype specificity circulate among equine populations.

Serotype G14 was once considered to be uncommon among equine rotaviruses. While it sporadically emerged in some parts of the world, serotype G14 became the dominant G serotype among rotaviruses detected in foals with diarrhea in Japan in the late 1990s.
